Red Outs getting old and flaking

Hi All,

I have a 2008 IS250 with red outs. I got them like the day I got my car. Well they are getting old and flaky and the orange is showing through on the spots that flaked.

How can I remove the old redout film so I can replace it with new ones?

Thanks!

That's strange, I have had my red outs on for more than 2 years and they are showing no signs of wear.

I think they are just like tint, you can just get a steamer and steamed them and then slowly pull them off.

Ok thanks. Mine are going on 3.5 years old now and I wash my car frequently too. I'll see about doing that to take them off. So ugly when the orange shows when I use my blinker!

I try to wax min every 2-3 washes, hopefully that makes them hold up a little longer.

just peal them off like a sticker, get goo gone to get the sticky stuff off, same method as pealing tint.

Which vinyl are you using?
My rvinyl has been on since 2005 and they still look the same. If goo gone doesn't work, glass cleaner works with a bit of elbow grease.

Is goo-gone safe for tail lights? I dont have redouts, but i know its unsafe on the headlights. I tried it on a small spot after i resealed them from painting the housings and it burned/melted the plastic a little (made it hazy). Be careful if you do try it and no one chimes in on this.

Ive used goo-gone on my windows and paint so I would assume theyre safe for tail lights...

Glass & paint isn't the same as plastics.

Find out what kind of plastic the tail lights are and then do some searching. When I wanted to clean adhesive off of some headlights (removed XPEL film), I looked into it and they were polycarbonate, and lighter fluid works very well to remove adhesive on them without damaging the polycarbonate at all. I don't know if the tail lights are made of the same stuff, but it seems possible.

Try to peel it off like a sticker, heat gun/blow dryer it if you're having difficulty, then use Goo Gone to remove leftover adhesive. Easy peasy.
