Default brushed aluminum steering wheel switch covers

On some ISs the switches are surrounded by black plastic, on some it's brushed aluminum. Why the difference? Can I purchase just the aluminum covers? I check the parts catalog and don't see a difference for the switch assemblies.

Here are two examples I found on google.

They're not brushed aluminum or even made of metal, they're plastic just like the two silver trim pieces that run along the sides of the center console. They come on 2011+ 2IS's. Pre-2011 comes with the black trim. Easily swappable.

You can't just swap the covers. You'd have to swap out the entire assembly with buttons. Last time I checked it was $300 ish. I'm wrapping mine in brush aluminum vinyl but fail so far as metalic vinyl doesn't conform well to curves.

This. CL member Hoovey2411 did this swap, as well as the new glovebox with the silver trim piece.

Been trying to find those too, but no luck. New from dealers or Sewell are too expensive. No local wreckers have a '11 IS for me to pick parts from... If anyone finds them can you give me a holler? lol

I want the glove box door too...

I like the black trim on the wheel more but do like the glove box trim look.

They do only sell the whole assembly.

Why just swap covers when you got the whole thing?

Jeff
