Lexus Test Driver
Modded cars = lower resale. You are already behind there. Convertibles = not practicle. BMW = high maintenance costs and reliability issues beyond four years. Add all these up and you are better off holding on to what you have (financially). If none of that matters to you and you are soley thinking about a car, then knock yourself out and enjoy.

all these people talking about impracticality of convertible have failed to realize that the new 3-series verts and the IS-C's are all hardtop convertibles.
Nothing really different than a regular coupe, except for top goes down (obviously), and when it does there's less trunk space

Amen...I went the the other way, too. Traded in my 325 Ci Conv for my 07 IS. Maintenance was ridiculously expensive and reliability is nowhere near the IS. For those wanting a BMW do yourselves a favor, go on Bimmerfest Forum and see the kind of reliability issues your dream car may have before committing to one.

My advice coming from someone who works at a dealership::::
First, remove all those accessories like the CF hood. Put the car back to stock as much as possible. Where you see the CF hood as an upgrade, most others see it as someone who ragged out a car, put a hood that doesn't match anything on, and who knows what else. So take is back to stock. Second, are you selling it or trading it in? Third, how many accidents have been reported on the VIN? Don't know? Send me your VIN, I'll let you know.
As for the BMW, you are in the wrong forum. Of course everyone here is going to say that the BMW is a POS, which it is, so you might have better luck going to the BMW forums and talking to them. The problem with BMW is that they put a sensor on every part of the car and for some reason, those sensors go out waaaaaay to much causing a dent in your wallet.... ALL THE TIME. Plus carbon buildup, regular maintenance, ****ty hard leather interior, boring radio interface, horrible NAV (much like the Lexus), etc.

That was my EXACT reason for passing on getting a 650i convertible when I was car shopping. Too many reliablility issues on them.... convertible top sensors not letting the top raise back up etc.. would really suck if you were out and it started to rain. BMW imo has along way to go as far as long term reliability goes.

^^^^^ hell they say they isx50 is a chic ride. Bimmers convertible or not are far from chic rides. But to each it's own. I got a 335 BMW convertible 2008 model. And all I have done is put gas in the gas and oil changes. Bought it with 58k on it 3 years ago I am up to 90k plus. Still running strong . Don't know if I got lucky but I am happy. And who ever said the interior in a BMW is not as good as a Lexus needs a reality check. BMW interior is above and beyond my is250 by I long shot . And the quality of leather rivals my exotic car.
I personally like all cars not really biased to one car. Both cars are nice you can't go wrong with either one.

Both cars are nice, it really depends on what you're looking for. The IS offers a convertible also. But the only other pros you will get from a BMW is the handling, hands down IMO best suspension Lexus suspension sucks, it feels like a boat. If you do get a BMW make sure you get extended warranty, even with a 328 there can be potential electrical problems.
