Default Smoking when I hit the gas?

Okay guys I noticed something recently. When I hit the gas hard I noticed there's smoke that comes out of my exhaust. Not really dark or a ton of it but enough to notice in my rearview mirror. I can't figure out whether this has something to do with the carbon buildup our cars experience or if it's due to the catalytic converter since during the summer it brings in a smell inside my cabin when I hit the gas.

Additional info: I use premium gas always, this is not when the car is cold, and only happens when I hit the gas hard to get up some speed (for example on ramp speeding). And the car does not smoke a lot when standing, just the normal amount that's visible in cold climate. Thanks guys.

White puff of smoke is rich mixture... If it's a little blue you'd be worried about an oil leak past the valve seals. If your still under warranty and getting blue smoke you want the dealer to take a look.

Oh, something else to check... Let the engine idle for 2 or 3 minutes and see if it starts smoking, that's a sure sign there's valve trouble.

^ ^ double check if it's little blue smoke, sound like you have valve seals problem like jgbackes Said

white smoke is water, black smoke is gas, and blue smoke is oil

+1 on this. I get a little puff of black smoke if i'm cruising around at about 30-40mph and then just mash the gas pedal.

Thanks guys. I've definitely let it idle for that long before and no blue smoke so that's a good sign. It's either white or dark. If it's running rich, what can I do to fix it? I've never really had to deal with that.

If it's running rich use a good quality fuel injector cleaner

Most cars put out a tiny bit of black smoke at WOT. Remember that just about all modern fuel injection systems go open-loop when you push the pedal to the floor.

Tried it out earlier today. Cruised around 40 mph and suddenly stepped hard on the pedal. Only a bit a smoke came out. Not much to cause any concern.
