Default I feel like i just got robbed...

Went into the dealer for my 45k maintenance.. total came out to $307....
Here are the fees broken down.

Cabin Air Filter 39.00
Gasket (can someone tell me what that is) 2.61
5W/30 Oil 3.89
REPLACEABLE ELEMENT (no idea what this is either) 6.25
Wiper Blades 19.90 for both

then a
15K Service DEFAULT 402 CMP 185 (WHAT THE CRAP is this fee lol)

As of right now if most of these are dyi's im prob just gonna do them all myself, except the oil since idk where to dispose of it after.

Seems cheap for a qt of oil and cabin filter change for a Lexus dealer.

I did forget to note though...i had my windshield replaced through a company they use about 3 months ago..but they didnt do it right and the molding stuck out on the inside passenger side. I told them about it and the mechanic pushed on the molding trying to get it in and cracked my windshield. I was given a rental and the glass was fixed for free, but I asked about a discounted maintenance fee because of all the hassle and the reply i get back is "well we don't have anything to do with the glass, its the glass companies fault so it isn't our mistake"

Gaskets used for oil pan drain plug. The element is the oil filter. Our vehicles do not use the disposable canister type.
We have a reusable filter body and change out the paper element only. BTW...the end cap uses an gasket/ O-ring also.

Cabin Air Filter 39.00
Next time: Charcoal Cabin Filter $12
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details

Gasket (can someone tell me what that is) 2.61
Next time: Gasket (for the oil filter) $8 on Sewell with CL discount for a 10 pack..
http://is.sewellparts.com/accessorie...2007/1903.html

5W/30 Oil 3.89
$3.89 means you got regular dyno oil.
Next time: Switch to a synthetic, like Mobil 1, more like $7/qt but you can go longer between oil changes

REPLACEABLE ELEMENT (no idea what this is either) 6.25
Replacement Element is the oil filter
Next time: Oil Filter $4 each on Sewell w/ CL Discount (buy in bulk because of shipping)
http://is.sewellparts.com/accessorie...2007/1896.html

Wiper Blades 19.90 for both
^ Standard price at a dealership pretty much.
Next time: Try and find a deal at your local autoparts stores, usually they will have buy one get one free offers around winter time on wipers. Just don't buy cheapo ones!

then a
15K Service DEFAULT 402 CMP 185 (WHAT THE CRAP is this fee lol)
I have no idea what that is for.... lol

If you've got the tools and know how to, next time just go ahead and make it a DYI job. and like TTech said, most autoparts stores will take your used oil for you if you bring it in a suitable container.

$307 is way too much. This all could have been done for under $100 DIY lol.

Sounds about right. If the glass is so cheap it cracks from being pushed on, it'd be the company that replaced the windshield that you should be mad at. Dealership shouldn't be responsible for cheap glass. I'd be more concerned about why that cheap of a glass was installed in the first place lol

These were all maintenance you could have easily done yourself and it wouldve costed about $100 give or take so of course the stealership will rape your wallet for labor

For a dealership that is the market. Either DIY or find an independent. Don't go to a dealer then feel like you were porked. If the price was within the estimate you authorized then you have nobody but yourself to blame.

Gasket = drain plug washer
Replaceable Element = paper oil filter
$185 is the labor

DIY or find a reliable mechanic.....

Learn about your car and what it needs at given service intervals. There is a TON of info on here. Also, something I have learned over the years...find a good service adviser and befriend them. Mine has been taking care of my IS since July of 2007 and does not mess around. If you go in educated they won't try to fleece you. If you go in being nice to them they will take care of you. Keep in mind these guys/gals deal with tons of idiots and clowns with distorted senses of self worth all the time. Just be smart about your car and be real with the adviser and you will be all set.

That is a good question, something i wondered too because someone else had the same question. I haven't had any issues with the way mine was installed, i will have to check which way i put it. I just ordered another one since its time for replacement so i may have to post a thread on which way the air flows if i can't find an answer before i install. Would be nice to make sure i'm actually putting it in the correct way
