Default Burnt LED instrument needles

Greetings,

Needles from the instrument cluster are brunt...

I followed this thread to get the cluster out:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...s-dying-4.html

And this is what it looks like inside

Does anyone know if it is possible to just replace the LED's? If so, where do I even begin?

Lexus wants $1500 to replace, including labor

Thanks!

you can buy a used cluster from eBay for like 150 and get it programmed at your dealership.
here fellow this thread : https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...g-needles.html

leds for the needles(rpm and speed) are really small so be careful when you solder the new ones.

p.s. you can always ask chi123 to do it for you for some small fee.

Hey BTW, I think I will be shipping your extra needles to you in about two weeks. I ordered some 1206 LEDs which fit the needles. I just need to open my gauge up to figure out the polarities since you took out all the LEDs.

I have never done one on an IS, but have you tried taking the front "glass" off and the black trim? You might be able to see better whats inside

If you know how to solder LEDs onto the needles, you can easily do so. They can use either a 1206, 0805, or 0603 size LED. It'll cost you just $5 to repair it yourself if you don't mess up. Otherwise, I'd be glad to fix it for you and even change the color of the needles if you want.

Just bought a used IS250 cluster from ebay. I just want to take care of it ASAP because it is my parents' DD.

Has anyone actually taken the cluster to the dealer and have them program the new cluster? Did they give you any kind of hassle for doing this?

I'd imagine they would request some kind of proof that the millage on the old cluster is accurate, so I hope by bringing both cluster is good enough for verification.

It probably won't be a hassle but it'll cost like $100 or more to program it I think.

Oops sorry I didn't see this before I puled the trigger on ebay. I think I will attempt to solder the original one as a practice soldering project

I just wanted to get it fixed ASAP because it is my parents' DD...and I felt $1500 was outrageous.

chi123= thanks alot man. how is the car coming along?

rocfob= if i were u i would just send the needles to chi123 and let him solder and sell that unit back on ebay or you can just use the ebay unit as temporarily until you get ur needles fixed so you dont have to pay 100 dollar programming charge from your dealership.

The instrument cluster cannot be programmed at the dealership. Assuming ordering brand new from the dealership, your vehicle will stay put on their lot until the new one arrives for the ODO to stay the way it is. The new cluster comes programmed from Lexus with the ODO when it arrives to the dealership.

If your vehicle is under warranty, bring it into the dealership.

Opps wasn't thinking straight - yes it can be programmed at the dealership. The dealership won't program it unless your car is on their procession to verify that ODO is what it is when they program the other cluster and put it in.

Assuming it's a warranty thing, let the dealership deal with it, otherwise it could void the warranty.
