2006 Lexus IS350 "backseats useless"
#31
After thinking about this thread, when I went out to my car this morning, I got into the back seat behind where I keep the driver's seat. It wasn't uncomfortable, it wasn't like sitting in an LS600hL or something (you should try that sometime if you haven't, it's a delight), but it was quite comfortable. Different people are of course different sizes and even if they were the same size they might not like it, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I have an infant car seat in mine and have no issues. People ride in my back seat with no problems. While the back seat could be bigger I think that the size of the back seat is a non issue in an expensive Corolla......IMO

There's really only one way to determine this answer for yourself, and that's to sit in each. Everyone here is right - yes, the backseats are very small in the 2IS, but they're not useless; I rarely haul people, I use the backseats far more often for hauling stuff like groceries, etc. I've been in a 330i and I wouldn't say the backseat space was any better frankly.

Back seat is small but I wouldn't say "useless". I have my 3 year old in his car seat and my 15 year old daughter (5'4") back there with no issues. My previous car was a Civic and it had more leg room. I didn't buy the IS because of it's ability to haul a back seat full of people.

Small? Definitely. Useless? Definitely not. This isn't an SC430 or 911 anything. I've had a 6'1" person sit in the back before. It's certainly comfortable enough for short trips, as long as there isn't a 6'2" person sitting in front of them. I've also had shorter people (of which there are plenty... like girls... 50% of the population) sit comfortably in the back for the entire drive between Dallas and Austin.
EDIT: Haha, I've had a friend call my car a "Lexus Corolla" before. At first it pissed me off a little, but then I realized that haters gonna hate, and he was really just trying to get under my skin anyways.

I'm 6'0". I've had my 6'5" friend along with my girlfriend (5'3") and another buddy (5'8") in the car. Tall people up front, shorties in back. It works out fine. I've also ridden in the back before. Mind you, it's because I was in no shape to drive but at the time it felt perfectly comfortable.
Unless all your friends are over 6' tall, no issues.
