Default IS350 after 5 years(120k miles)

I've not posted in a while, so I thought I'd give an update on my IS350(you can see specs in my signature) at the 120k mile marker.

I've posted a few DIY's when I first entered this forum, but have just enjoyed the car since then.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...er-change.html
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...50-w-pics.html

For these past 5 years, the only maintenance I've had done is the oil changed every 10-12k miles. I use Mobile 1 synthetic, 15k extended version. I used to do the oils changes myself(hence the DIY), then I found out my Toyota dealer would do it for $11 labor. I figure if I can afford a Lexus, I can afford $11 labor. I also have the K&N filter which I find to be cheaper to do over the long run.

I've had a few of the TSB's done during this time. Dustless brake pads, vibrating mirror, rattle at startup(twice), and one or two I don't remember now.

I've also had all the recalls done. To me, seems like alot of recalls, but they are replacing parts, so it's ok with me. Just had the valve sprint recall done where they send some owners the $500 gift card(of which I did get)

I just did that recall this week. During that work, they said my front brakes was down to 2mm and rear down to 3mm. The front needs new rotors and the rear needs resurfacing. Total parts/labor almost $1000.

I told the guy no way. I got the parts myself(using the $500 card, thanks Lexus) and had the toyota dealer do the labor for $250. So total out of pocket for new front/rear pads(dustless again), front shims, front rotors was $250.

Since I have K&N filter and change my own cabin filter, the dealer said I only really need to do the spark plug change at 120k service if car was knocking. No knocking, so they didn't recommend to do anything.

I've had one speeding ticket in the 5 years. Sorry... hard to not punch it sometimes.... ok.... most of the time.

Just wanted to let you guys/girls know, still love the car and it's still as clean on the inside/outside as the day I bought it. No regrets.

Have fun driving and be safe.

Bray

good to hear!!! I have an 06 and crossed 18k miles (recently bought it from a retired guy). I hope to be going strong in 5 years and 100k more miles.

My last lexus was an ES300 that my wife an I had for over 7 years, sold it when it was 14 years old and had 170k miles, still going strong and no major repairs needed. Thanks Lexus!

nice review and glad to hear another 2IS doing so well after the 100K point. How would you classify your city/highway %?

Should of done the splugs while they did your valve recall. Only had to pay for the parts. Also, try change your dif oil and you will really know the differences, especially you haven't done it for 120k

Gotta love Lexus. They run forever, and always feel like day 1. Go drive a Buick/Oldsmobile and tell me how it feels after 5 years. EVERYTHING is literally falling apart. lol

You will get a lot of different opinions on this but I personally have only ever used Synthetic in all of my cars. Its not that much more expensive and in my opinion a lot better oil than dino.

+1, I would change out the plugs. The manual calls for them to be changed every 60K. I also changed out my diff at 60K as well. Oil didn't look bad but it didn't hurt anything.

Thanks.

I drive mostly highway miles(35 miles each way to work on interstate), so I'm not sure of the city mileage.

On highway, if I drive the speed limit(60mph) I can get around 30-32mpg. Have seen 34mpg in some cases.

If I drive offensively and usually around 75-80mph, then I get around 24-26mpg and that includes some city driving on the weekends.

Yes, now that I read this, I probably should have changed them out while doing the recall.

I'll buy the plugs and I'll see what my toyota dealer will charge for labor. I'm sure it's half what Lexus charges. The service dept at my Toyota dealer is a really good crew, so will hit them up for that service.

How long you had the K&N filter? Did it cause any problems like the air flow sensor going bad?

I've had the K&N air filter for 4.5 years. I just maintain it.

No problems with any sensors or warnings. Runs like a champ.
