i don't think so. Make sure you're car in a good hand (i mean, someone that know what he/she's doing).
Back to the main point, We're waiting for update

There are pry marks all over the place, in places where no prying is needed. It's very clear he just started trying to force it out before removing any of the screws/bolts holding it in. Shame. You need a new dash.

As for who works on a car, there are good private shops and bad private shops. There are good dealerships and bad dealerships. Even at a good shop they may have a bad employee, as well. What makes a good dealership or private shop beyond doing good work, is their ability to take care of things when something goes bad. Settling for not having to pay for a measly 3-hours of labour when your entire dash is now garbage does not a good shop make. Sounds very shady.

I think by now he feels pretty bad because not only does he have to look at it but he feels pretty duped for trusting someone other than one who knows how to remove the nav. And here everyone is reminding him of his choice of service.

AllBizNiz, don't feel bad. It's not your fault. Nobody means to take their car to a place that doesn't know what they are doing.

This is a learning experience. An expensive one but now he knows and doesn't need more lectures from us. I'm still hoping that somehow you can get these guys to replace the dash. In the meanwhile, maybe there are still other ideas on how to help you floating around.

Dude!!! That's some really F'ed up ***** right there. It looks like he let his German Shepard loose onto your dash. It's not even a good picture and I can still make out all the damage.

You're in a pretty *****ty position because the tech is a high recommendation from your father in-law but you have got to straighten this fool out. He had NO clue whatsoever on how to work on your ride.

Those marks you see are exactly the product of dumb brute force + flat head screw driver.

You should have never accepted his offer for free labor and instead paid him whatever was owed and ask him for the part + labor of the new dash. You should tell him you just want to be reasonable and get this fixed, nothing further since he's ur in-law's friend.

LOL...If he took it to a Lexus Dealership MOST likely it would have been done right because im sure they have more experience removing NAV from dash.

I am late to the party, but push for full replacement. The radio and vents are easy to remove once yo uknow what you are doing, this is just negegence by them. They are insured for this type of thing and can pay you. NOTHING short of a new dash can fix this--and possibly they destroyed the top vent clips, i would check. they may owe you a new upper vent assembly.

also PM me, there is a PDF that talks about how to fix the nav screen when the touchscreen goes dead.

I have a feeling he got rid of the car. He's in the south florida area and when I was car shopping for a car for my sisters car I went to look at an IS at a lincoln mercury delearship and the car had the same identical damage in the same spots as in this pic.
