A/C compressor running with A/C button off
Hi all,
New to the forum and glad to be among the owners of the prettiest compact luxury sedan on the road. I've had the 07 IS250 RWD for about 2 years now and never had too many concerns until I encountered the following.
Recently took it in for 45k service and noticed something different when I got it back. I have the climate control set in the following way with the A/C button off (to conserve MPG and horsepower).
Auto mode: off
A/C light: off
Fan speed: 3
Temp: LO
Inlet mode: outside air
Vents: Foot+Defroster
Yesterday this combination of settings would blow normal-temperature outside air that's not air conditioned. And today after getting it back from the shop, noticed that the same settings produced cold air-conditioned air. This is strange to me because I'm in manual mode and the A/C light is off, but the A/C compressor is still running.
Is there any way to turn the compressor off? Seems the A/C light is misleading. Do I have any control over the A/C compressor at all? Do your cars behave the same way when using those settings?
Thanks.

kyoso23 is right. The compressor runs to provide dehumidification any time you direct air to the defroster outlet. If you change away from "Foot + Defroster" while the A/C light is off, the compressor will turn off. Your car has done that since the day it was built; nothing to do with the 45k service.
Ok, thanks all. Perhaps I just didn't notice it was that way before the 45k. I suppose I just found it strange that the A/C compressor would run in foot+def even with A/C button off. But if that's the way it was designed, then that's fine.
