Default RPM needle not lighting up at the tip.

The tachometer on my 2006 IS250 isn't lighting up all of the time now. It lights up occasionally but it's become less and less frequent for it to work. It's about a half inch on the outside tip.

Is there any way I can repair this myself or have someone repair it at a reasonable cost? The dealer told me they'd have to replace the whole instrument cluster and it would be like $800.

Thanks!

$800? I was quoted that it would cost $1500 from the local dealership here. If you want to look else where you could find at local yard if there is any totaled IS within the same year and grab one off that. Another could be from EBay if there is any.

It's usually at 100% but if I turn it down, the tip is still fainter than the rest of the needle no matter what level the **** is turned to.

I have the same problem as you but the mid section is dim. There's no hope unless you replace the whole cluster or are really good with electrical and want to deal with taking the cluster apart.

Posted a couple months back about this.

Car was already out of warranty (2006 IS350) and quoted $1200 to fix from all the local Lexus dealers.

Ebay, $200 used cluster, ~15 min job to swap. Mileage is the only thing to note as it will be using the replacement clusters mileage. I didn't bother to get it reprogrammed, just make a note of the mileage difference.

Don't even bother trying to repair the needle unless you know how to solder with one of those special microscopes for small electrical joints.

This is kind of ridiculous that there isn't some sort of TSIB or voluntary recall for this. I'm sure Lexus is already aware because this isn't some sort of new issue. There's no way this should be happening this early!

Will all of the 06-09 instrument clusters work on my 06 IS250 or only specific model numbers? Also, if I did decide to buy a used one and have it installed, how much do you think the dealer would charge me to A) Have it installed and B) Reprogram it?

Thanks
