Default Plugged tires

how durable are they? i've never ridden on a tire that has gotten plugged before. yeah its a good alternative instead of buying a new tire, but i dont know if its trustworthy. as long as it get professionally plugged and balanced on the wheel, will the tire perform as if the plug wasnt there?

anyone have any experience/insight on this subject?

weird, my wife just got a flat two days ago and got it plugged...I had two flats plugged on two separate tires in the past. One was on a goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3 and I never had a problem, even with aggressive driving. Someone correct me if i'm wrong but I think the more you drive the better the seal becomes.

I had 3 tires plugged on my old car. Never had an issue at all. I drove the car hard too. My first plugged tire happened after only having the tire about a month. Second one happened about a year down the road. I didn't have any issues, i drove 30K miles on them before switching to a new set too.

If its done right and its a repair that is really pluggable, there will be no issues in my experience. Just make sure whoever is doing it knows what they are doing

I would never drive on a plugged tire. I have not had a flat in about 3 or 4 years, but IMHO, a correct tire repair involves removing the tire from the wheel and patching it from the inside. And, I would not have this done by ye old corner repair shop. I would only have this done at a reputable tire retailer that has installers that know what they are doing.

Tire Rack has a page here:

I've always had tires patched from the inside, not plugged. Either way, the tire will lose its speed rating.

ive always plugged my tires when i have a nail and i never had a problem. it has to be in the tread though. you can not plug or patch if its too close to the sidewall.

x2! If any shop tells you they can plug/patch or otherwise repair damage to your sidewall or very close to it get the hell out of there with quickness

Always get it patched from the inside.... The outward pressure will push the patch into the tire tread and create that perfect seal.

I plugged my Toyo T1Rs myself before and never had a problem with them. I'd do it all over again instead of spending to get it done somewhere or buying a new tire.
