My HKS is showing signs of rust...Any tips to help prevent the spread of rust? The car is rinsed at least once a week to remove winter salt deposits.

well my muffler guy told me to try to take longer trips with the car. if you only make short trips (less than a few miles) water remains in the exhaust system. this causes a lot of rust that starts from the inside and the driver wont notice until the rust goes right through the piping. but seeing that you're in a cold climate, it probably takes even longer to get the car heated up. condensation is formed easier since the weather you're in is colder. my mom's camry had the same problem until she moved work locations which made her commute longer. this may be just one reason why you get rust in your exhaust system.

^ Thx...but it's the rust forming on the exterior of the exhaust that is bothering me.

try some nevr-dull or meguiar's mag and aluminum polish.

if that doesn't work, use steel wool. then finish with a coat of sealant.

Stainless steel will surface rust, never go threw. I am a sheetmetal mechanic on airplanes. A lot of company's use " galvanized steel" for exhaust and Chrome plate it saying its stainless. There's really nothing you can do except clean it good and put maybe some alodine chemical if you can get some.

Clean it up and put a coat or 2 of wax on. Just like your paint, needs protection and wax will help.

^ do you recommend any particular wax? I presume that it would have to be high temp.
