tried pushing down the break pedal really hard and jerking the steering wheel while pressing the start/stop button, no go.

Do you have the vehicle manual? If you do, you can look at page 494 and It's the section "If the electronic key does not operate properly." I don't know if the page is the same for your manual. Hope this helps.

Exclamation

The only variable is the battery, so don't be so quick to dismiss that as the cause. Isn't it a thin watch battery that could go in backward? I would open it up and see if flipping it does anything. The buttons on the keyfob may still work with it backward, but the signal emitter may not.

Have you tried searching for how to change out the battery? Perhaps your owner's manual can provide more info on it if there is a special process involved.

Just a random thought, have you tried to unplug your car battery to reset the ECU, or have you checked to make sure the car battery is still good?

yup, tried unplugging the positive terminal for the car battery to reset the ECU, and the car battery is fine too.

oh and another thing, when I enter the car and look at the dashboard it usually says "key not detected" but it doesn't do that. the dashboard is completely blank and doesn't light up at all regardless if i am holding the key or not.

Does the green light (on the start/stop button) come on when you press the brake pedal? Have you tried putting the key fob right up against the start stop switch when trying to start the car? You can also try cycling the metal key in the door cylinder, with the door closed, to make sure the security system isnt activated.
