Exclamation MAF Sensor gone bad anyone??

Has anyone here had their MAF sensor go Bad? I've been having my Check VSC / Traction Control / Check Engine Light go on for several months now, at first i thought it was my Right Passenger O2 Sensor, and it was.. but after Toyota did a check up on my car they told me it was both O2 Sensor and MAF Sensor. I had my own mechanic fix the O2 Sensor already and he told me that was the only issue his scanner was bringing up, few days later the lights came back so im pretty positive its the MAF sensor as well although my mechanic did not. Toyota wanted 500$ to install and replace the O2 Sensor and about 300$ to install and replace the MAF Sensor, of course i just took it back. And yes I took it to Toyota, not Lexus, Since most Toyota dealers are generally cheaper than Lexus Dealers, but yet still really expensive..

I also read on a MY.IS thread same guy having this problem, except the dealer blamed the intake and exhaust.. I've had a full catback exhaust before and intake as well.. either the Dealer was BSing or they were right.

I plan on buying the MAF sensor from sewell.

I've heard that Lexus may not cover if it's done by a non-Lexus dealer, even thou it is Toyota. Could be a a scare tactic?

Yes.

It's illegal to condition a warranty on someone specific doing the work.

The OP is obviously out of warranty though since he's going elsewhere to fix stock parts.

To the OP- I'd invest $3 in some cleaner for the MAF first and see where that gets you before buying a new one though.

Nope I had Fujita at the time when the lights starting coming on.

I just got back from my Mechanic but his scanner still doesn't show anything about the MAF Sensor, i got some catalytic converter codes showing up though according to him. Either Toyota lied or his scanner isn't as accurate as the dealers (AutoEnginuity) He told me to just go to Longo Lexus and he said that the catalytic converter should be covered under the 70K Power Train warranty since its a Federal Emission thing or something like that.. Not sure what he meant by that. I still have my Cats and everything as well never removed them. I don't feel like paying almost 200$ just for Longo to scan for the codes.. which only takes minutes..

I could try cleaning it though, maybe that will get the lights to go off.. hopefully..

What kind of spray do you guys recommend to clean it? Where is the MAF sensor anyway? Near the O2?

try the crc mass air flow sensor cleaner
(available at pepboys, autozone...)

the maf sensor is right on the filter box where it connects to the intake tube.
to remove, you just unplug and remove the screws.
fig. 4-13 (pg.9) here
