Default Item fell behind center console

Talk about bad design... I placed a thin object on top of the gliding cover of the center console ash tray (in front of the gear shift). When I slid it open to plug a power cable into the lighter outlet, I heard a plink, as the thin object fell behind the sliding cover, out of reach. Dealership says to get it will cost almosr $400 in labor for 3 hours. Anyone else have this problem or alternative suggestions?

Save yourself some money and remove the center console using this DIY. It's not that hard.
