Getting an abnormal output from my HID's

After installing my 6K HID's I noticed the driverside is a lot brighter than the passenger side. I took it out driving and as I was parked behind a van I saw the reflection of my headlights and it was absolutely obvious that my driverside was having a major glare. So I told my fiance to drive my car and I drove in front of her and the driverside nearly blind me whle the passenger side looked fine.

I figured it was a aiming issue so I parked it in front of a wall about 25 ft away and aimed them both at the same level. STILL THE SAME PROBLEM?!?! Driverside is giving off a huge glare! So I looked in the manuel to see if I can do any other adjustments and I noticed there is a second bolt/adjusting screw towards the outsside of the headlight in the fender but I can't seem to find it. Do any of you guys have an idea as to why my driverside is giving such a glare and where is "Bolt B", according to the manuel, and what does it do?

Oh and I tried switching the bulbs around to see if its the bulbs and same thing.

What type of bulbs do you have?

HS2G Oct 15, 2010 12:33 AM

Phillips 6000K

llamaboiz Oct 15, 2010 02:02 AM

you need one of those long phillips screwdrivers (at least 8") to get to the 2nd (fenderwell) adjustment thingy.

Try to reinstall the bulbs and also try to switch between L/R. If the other unit is giving you a lot of glare, than the bulb is not good.

I had a 10" screwdriver and I even shined a light in there to see if I could see the knob but there wasn't anything there. So I took out the intake box to get more clearance and unless its somewhere hidden I couldn't find it for the life of me. What does that second knob do anyways because the one right on top of the low beam is adjusting it up and down already.

I took the bulbs out and reinstalled them literally 5 times already and I have also switched from left to right and right to left.

Which source did you bought these philips 6k from? to what i heard most of these Ultinon bulbs are fake, unless it has red salt in middle... good luck

Here's a thread on how to adjust your headlight beam.

maybe i'm wrong
but i too cannot find the horizontal adjustment bolt
i spoke to my friend who works at the lexus collision center and he told me only those who have AFS have the horizonal bolt

does your IS have AFS headlights?

I have the same issue. I think it is the way the projector is designed.

I bought it from Phil at Xenonsupply. You probably know Phil if you've seen his video on youtube on how to install HID's on an IS250/350.

Thanks, but I already know how to adjust them up and down. I just want to know what is the function of the second bolt the manuel was referring to "bolt B" for non AFS lights.

Mine doesn't have AFS unfortunately.

Weird, I heard that on lexus vehicles the driverside should have been lower and less glare than the passenger side. Mine is the opposite.

SilentWish Oct 15, 2010 10:41 PM

HS2G, if our IS does not have AFS
and we both cannot find the horizontal bolt
i think it's safe to conclude, along with the info from my friend who works at lexus, that only AFS vehicles have the horizontal adjustment bolt

i'm very happy in a way that my car doesn't have the horizontal adjustment bolt!
that means i cannot adjust it and that i don't have to worry about another thing being off alignment :D

what year IS250 awd you have?
i have 2010 and i don't seem to have that issue

I had issues with locating the horizontal screw too but by dipping and turning i managed to turn it. Basically, you just need to poke and turn using a large enough screw driver...it's done by feeling.
