Default $%^&! Broke a clip on the stock airbox

So I just bought my 2008 IS350 with 8500 miles on it about 3 weeks ago. The car had a Fujita intake on it so I bought a complete stock airbox, upper and lower from a CL member. I also bought an F sport intake pipe and an F sport filter. I cut a hole in the stock airbox in the exact location of the F sport box. I did the install yesterday and everything went fine until i tried to secure the upper portion of the airbox with the clips. The F sport filter is slightly thicker than a standard paper fiter so it was hard to get all the clamps down. Needless to say after much maneuvering and repositioning i got three of the clamps down and the one up top closest to the intake pipe snapped clean off from the box, broke the plastic support and everything. The box still seems pretty secure but i can move that edge up about 1/8 of an inch if i really try. I'm so pi$$ed.

It's not the end of the world. You'll live. You can always get some clamps to hold it down temporarily until you get a new box. I'm sure you can find someone who'll sell you their stock box for cheap. Post in the 2IS classifieds.

^^^

Agree bro.

I believe missing a clip wouldn't cause enough air leak to trigger the CEL. In fact, I don't think it does anything as long as you have it tight and snug, you're fine.

Try welding the piece back to the box with a soldering iron.

I had problems trying to get the Fsport filter on and thought that I might do the same thing so I re-used the stock filter.

Try using some JB weld for plastic on that tab?

Yeah i'm not really sure if JB weld or plastic weld will work. There is a lot of tension on that piece and I would see the weld snapping almost instantly. I could be wrong though...

Hey OP, I think we exchanged emails via Craigslist a while ago. You were interested in my stock intake. Glad to see you made it to the other CL.

Like others are saying, not a big deal. But being borderline OCD it would bug me too.

It's funny I was looking at the broken piece today and it appears as if there is glue residue already around the break. Meaning the person I bought this airbox from already broke it and fixed it. I just didn't notice it until it broke again.

Well I plan to buy just the lower airbox from someone and just replace it. Although I would have to buy it for cheap because Sewell sells just the lower F sport airbox for only $60.
