That's laughable and expected for a dealership.

Dealers will low ball you on the trade-in. Like what Fizzboy7 said, this is where they make money. They appraise your car for $2000 less than market value and then sell it a little higher than the market value to the next guy. They claim that the need to knock off the value on your car in order to prep and inspect.

My friend traded in her car for $2000 when she can easily have sold it for at least 4-5K. I sold mine privately and got $7000 ... the dealer wanted 5 grand for trade-in.
You have to take into consideration that when you trade in a vehicle, the money you made off the trade in saves you on taxes on the new car. For example if you have a trade in worth $15000 the taxes you save on the newer car that youre buying is $2100. So that 2k you would have lost in trading in a car instead of privately selling it is made back when dont have to buy as much tax on the new car. And privately selling a car is a pain.

Hope that makes sense haha

You should just inquire the price of the 350 and never mention about the trade in. Once you and dealership agree on the final price then mention the trade in...that way they can't make any adjustments on the 350. If they do, just walk away.
