As others have said, these cars aren't even in the same class. The IS350 is a luxury sedan. The cayman S is a sports car that costs nearly twice as much.

I don't anticipate much cross shopping between the two vehicles.

Then again, I'm not sure if you were looking for purchasing recommendations. Not sure what your question was to be quite honest

I think he's talking about which would win in a race. Guess some unknown porsche (maybe a cayman) was trying to catch up with him through traffic.

Close enough to be insignificant.

No, it's about 4.8 to 5.1 seconds, with an average of around 4.9 seconds.

zeroto60times IS350 = 4.8 seconds 2007 Lexus IS 350 0-60 mph 4.8 Quarter mile 13.3 (zeroto60times.com)

Torquestats IS350 = 4.9 seconds torquestats.com

Road and Track IS350 = 4.9 seconds http://www.roadandtrack.com/var/ezfl...a4be35078d.pdf

Car and Driver IS350 = 5.1 seconds

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...s_is350_page_8

"C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.1 sec

You won’t be working too hard to repeat our 5.1-second 0-to-60-mph time"

Edmunds IS350 = 5.2 seconds

http://www.insideline.com/bmw/3-seri...us-is-350.html

So there are 5 independent sources all putting the IS350's 0 to 60 in the range of 4.8 seconds to 5.2 seconds, 3 of them being highly decorated/professional (Road and Track, Car and Driver, Edmunds)

Owners have measured a bone stock IS350's 0 to 60 in as low as 4.7 seconds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dj-ZvmRivzg

The only people who will try to convince you that the IS350 does 0 to 60 a full second slower (6 seconds) are typically insecure drivers from competing brands who have slightly slower cars but are unwilling to admit it. The BMW 330i is a great example, or the Acura TL-S, or the G37, all of which consistently post lower 0 to 60 times than the IS350 when compared by the same entity (Road and Track or Car and Driver, you name it). I don't blame people who are unfamiliar with the IS350 to be confused with all of the misinformation out there. It doesn't help that Lexus themselves severely underestimate the IS350's performance capabilities given that, in the past, Lexus has not been necessarily known to provide understated figures.

The caveat to all of this is, you need to have the traction control fully disabled in the IS350 to achieve these times. Having the traction control on can add up to a full second for 0 to 60.

For the 2007+ models, traction control is easily disabled by holding the traction control button for 5 seconds.

For the 2006 model, you have to do an elaborate "pedal dance" sequence that involves depressing and releasing the brake and parking brake in a certain way in order to disable traction control.

Hope these resources/information help.

By the way, the highly variable nature of the 0 to 60 times posted by different magazines can be attributed to two factors:

1) density altitude (which, among other things, is a function of temperature)
2) traction achieved (with traction control off, mind you)

Variability in these two factors will account for the variability in times you see posted (from 4.8 to 5.2)

A few months ago I was on the highway and this car started tailgating me. He changed to my right and we both floored it. (I downshifted to 4th).

Kept him in my sideview mirror until 100mph and then he backed off. When he exited the freeway, I read his bumper and it said Carrera. I was like "Yes!". But then again, it looked like an early 2000s model or older.

Default IS350 or Porsche Cayman

The IS350 and Porsche Cayman are totally different cars. I think the IS350 is probably about the same speed or a little faster (acceleration), more comfortable, holds 4 people and has more luxury features. The Cayman is a fun car to drive but for ony 2 people and limited cargo. The Cayman costs more than the IS350. Right now the quality of the Porsche cars is really good (it use to be terrible). The quality of the IS350 is very good. I have a 2006 IS350 and haven't had any major problems (a few minor items under warranty). I drive my IS350 to work everyday and my Porsche on weekends. I don't know if I could drive the Porsche every day (lots of work shifting gears in Freeway traffic in Southern California. Pick the car that makes you happy. They are both good cars.

Cayman is a 2 seat sports car. Just get the S model and ignore the base. Interior is well done. Handles incredible. Don't expect it to be faster than an IS 350. Steering is incredible. Mods will cause your wallet to scream.

IS is a 4 seater, get F-sport parts, try to hang.

i have both a '10 IS250 AWD and an '09 Boxster. The pic is my old '07 IS.
I realize that the 350 will be quicker than the 250, the Cayman and Boxster are pretty much the same.
My Boxster is not the S version. My impression, from the stats it would be close on a straight, but the Boxster would be all over the IS on a road course.

I'm confused.. Porsche vs Lexus? I love my IS350, but a new Porsche? Make sure you check out insurance prices on the Porsche also.. that'll be a killer unless someone else is paying that stuff... Porsche would be fun though...

Since we are on the subject.. A Ferrari would be nice... or some nice mexican food.. like a Carne Asada burrito or some Carne Asada Fries... hmmmm....
Wait.. what were we talking about again?

Insurance is not a problem for those with good driving records. My IS350 is no cheaper to insure than the last Porsche Boxster S that I owned.

My Boxster was cheaper ($100 less) than my SC430.
