Unhappy Sad Face

Well no-go on the Magnaflow 35121's. They are too long. They are edge-to-flange 7", and 5.5" to 6" is what we need for a 2IS car.

The exhaust guy said he couldn't cut the tip up in the tapered area and that he'd have too much trouble welding it there too, so :-( Now the trick; either finding a 6-ish inch tip to cut some length off of, or to find that magical 5.5" or5.75" tip. Some more pics to help:

The Magnaflow 35127 is the 4.5" length version, but that is 2.5" shorter, so I am afraid it would look like a coffee can sticking off the end. The next-best option is probably the 6.25" length 35177 (which is what Dubsesd is running on his black IS), the only difference being that it is a rolled edge instead of a sharp edge. I do not have a super strong preference either way and I am not seeing any other options...

Does anybody know will the S2K tips fit on the Greddy exhaust? I like the exhaust but the tips seems to be a little tucked inside the rear bumper if I have the GFX rear.

Unhappy Magnaflow 35127

Here is a Magnaflow 35127 tip photo; I think they would look silly on a 2IS...

I am ordering some Cherry Bomb 577588 tips to try out as well. One of these two has to work!

I have these tips on my car. They are perfect length for rear GFX kit. On normal IS they will stick out a lot. The only thing I don't like is the tips are big, they do look a bit like coffee can.

Dojoman - I thought you said you had straight cut tips on your car? What are you (or what am I) smoking?

Lightbulb Magnaflow 35177

Got the 35177s in the mail today. Turns out they are only 6" long and have a pretty long small diameter section. I think the muffler guy should be able to cut 1.5" off these and make them work.

Default The verdict is in - Boom Baby!

I was surprised when i finally got the Cherry Bomb 577588 model tips in the mail because like the other tips, they are not as-pictured or as-described when you receive them. They are the correct inlet diameter and final length, but they have a funny shape that I was not expecting (they are 2.25" inlet, 4" outlet, and 4.5" total length at the longest). There is actually not a connection at the back between the big diameter and small diameter of the tip, so you can ring it like a bell...which I was concerned about from an exhaust note perspective.

But, that said, the funny shape is no biggie and seems fine. I took them and the Magnaflow 35177 tips to the muffler shop. I already knew by the measurements that you'd have to cut off at least an inch or so from the magnaflows to get them to not stick out past where the factory tips are. The cherry bombs on the other hand, don't require any modification to the tip (and I happen to prefer the straight edge just slightly to the rounded edge). So all-in-all, the installation of the cherry bombs was super easy for the guys. They just cut off the factory tip a little ways out from the muffler, put a tack weld, made some final adjustments to the positioning, and then did the final welding. The shop only asked for $40 for the whole job, and the cherry bomb tips are under $30/ea. from Summit Racing http://www.summitracing.com/parts/IMM-577588. Anyway - less talk, more photos!

I think they turned out great and I didn't perceive any change in my exhaust note. Red-out lenses and tips for a total cost of less than 150 bucks; I think this is a fabulous way to dress up a 2IS!

Tips look great on the car Trumpanche.
