it's an 8mm difference. not a huge visual difference, but it may be enough to allow for one-size-wider tires.

Just installed 235/35/19 on my 8.5" wheel + 255/35/19 on a 9.5" .. I am really surprised how similar it feels to the stock 17" setup , was expecting ride to be much stiffer but it was really ok .

Guess my Bridgestones on the 17" were too hard , I installed Federal tires btw on the new wheels.
Hmmm.....My set up is very close to yours but i haven't got the tire on yet.

What is your offset?

Could you share the picture?

So im in the market for some aftermarket wheels and i was wondering why people go for 19's instead of 18's.

I think because 19" looks just right with our cars. Not too big, not too small...

Thanks for the response.

I got some really n00b questions and i was hoping if some of you can answer it.

1. Why do some people like to get 8.5F and 9.5R (from what i've noticed). Is that the OEM size?

2. I might get 18's, what is the most aggressive offset i can go without any fender mods. I'll most likely go with 18x8.5 and 18x9.5. I will be filling up the fender gap. I read somewhere that the most aggressive offset I can go is +30?

3. If i go with 18x8.5 and 18.9.5, do i just stick with the OEM tire specs?

Lingering n00b question:
4. One of the reasons why people are against replica wheels is because its not safe cause its a cast wheel. But isn't OEM wheels cast. So should I be worried?

Debating getting some 19x8.5 +20 19x9.5 +20. I don't want to stretch a lot and will be on Megan ez coilovers. I'm thinking I'd have to go 215/35 and 235/35. Whatcha think?

1. because for those of us who are used wheels junkies, that's what we go with.
2. correct.
3. correct.
4. it's not so much how the wheels are manufactured but rather how much R&D/testing/certification said wheels undergo. i would prefer to have wheels that are VIA/JWL/TUV/DOT approved than ones that aren't.

^^for +30 which if the most for the stock fenders, 255/40(oem size) is about what you want to run.

if he wanted to mod the fenders he could go with a +24~ with that 255/40

I'm looking for some rims/tires for my IS350 and i think i am looking at close to the same specs as Snubble.

So will the following work with no fender mods at all and no drop (might go with some coils in the future with a 1 finger drop)

Front: 18x8.5 +40 (what about +30?)
Rear: 18x9.5 +35

Also i am a bit rusty on my offset info. But it looks like +40 mm offset is supposed to be stock offset, and IIRC a +30 means the wheel is moving outwards. Is that correct?

Some quick pics I took , sorry for the bad quality , still on the iphone3G
I know it badly needs a drop , just want to enjoy the "rubbing-less" ride for a while
