Noob question...

The 2011 year model has the same engine, same GDI system, same compression ratio etc., so does this carbon build up on the valve stem also apply to the 2011 IS250s?

I have called a few dealerships and asked, one of them said flat out no, the other scheduled an appointment for me to run a diagnostics test (for free) to test if the engine is misfiring.

I am concerned because earlier this week, my car began to rev itself at a red light after a cold start and driving normally for about a mile...

Any of you 2011+ owners experience this carbon build-up problem? If so, what was your success with Lexus on taking care of this issue?

Had the following below done about two years ago on my 2008 CPO IS250 as a result of a lot of lights coming on the engine shaking so bad the car shook. Unfortunately, the same issue has occurred again a mere 15,000 miles later, if that. I'm considering just trading the car and cutting my losses. I still owe two years on the car and don't care to be stuck with a bill when all of this goes even further south.

From the invoice...Vehicle failed misfire test and TSB was performed. Service/parts used...

1 Gasket kit, engine
1 Ring set, piston
3 piston sub assy
2 piston sub assy
1 piston sub assy
1 lof is250
1 replaceable element
1 gasket
And a bunch of ransoms - oil, oil pan, atwfs, non-chlor brake c, nuts, locks, etc

Just recently purchased a 2008 Lexus is250 at 99k got a good deal on it, was wondering if it's still covered by warranty for the carbon build up recall ? Anyone ?

Interesting question. New here but read a few articles about it, 9 years unlimited mileage. Not sure if it's transferable though? Best bet would be to call your dealer and ask them if it's covered.

I'm looking at grabbing a 2010 myself.

.

Don't do it! It is a headache and you're better off buying an Lexus with the 2GR-FSE..

Your best bet is to check with your local dealer. They will look it up by VIN

well, the reason im wanting a 250 is because of AWD. if they made the 350 in an awd version I would be all over it no question. But they dont!

theres a 2010 is250 awd with 36K miles on it, for $15,000 Canadian currency. it's rebuilt status hence the low price, but it was just body damage. I'm really considering it. I'm not overly concerned about the carbon buildup issue. with only 36k miles it wont be bad yet, and I can install a catch can, and run engine cleaners in the gas to minimize any future buildup.

I think it was mid 2010 they changed up the rings to reduce it, but i think it still happens to an extent.
