It all depends on what your deductible is. If it's nothing, get the insurance company to pay for a professional. If you have a deductible, which you probably do, it's worth it to do it yourself. It's really easy.
Just buy a kit from autozone, it's a piece of cake.

get it done professionally. you can contact companies like seawater glass or other sort. almost all insurance companies cover the cost and all you have to do is fill out some paperwork. the person coming to do your windshield should have the paperwork you need to file. i know for sure because one of my friends is one of the guys who come to fix your windshield

Windshield repair is not part of delectable as far as I know and usually covered by insurance company, the professional who does the repair will process the claim for you if necessary. I had windshield repaired (not replaced) 2 times on my other cars before, and my deductible was $500.

Call your insurance, they will usually get someone to do it for you deductible free. Reasoning behind this is, it's cheaper for them to repair your chip than it is to replace the windshield if it spreads.

thats strange, my friend works for them and its free as long as you havent had them repair it within 3 months span. well its not really free, its free as long as you have insurance that covers it. so far, i think only mercury is the only insurance that wont cover it, but i think mercury is changing their policy soon
edit: check out seawater glass, its a newer company but they are trying to compete with safelite

If you are a customer of Allstate/AAA or state farm they offer safelite repairs for FREE. Thats a $0.00 charge. They offer this because it happens so often, that its cheaper for them to repair the windshield then to pay for a new one. Usually the deductable for a new windshield is 100.00

I recently had a chip on my windshield but not as big. They charged me $49 to repair it but I can still see a hair line crack. I had similar crack on my another car and I bought one of those repair kit from autoshop for $10 and it worked just as good as the shop. I'd say buy the kit and try it yourself. It's actually very simple if you're patient.
