yeah it's definitely easier and faster than taking the whole unit out to replace. The hardest part was pulling the bulb straight down, as some of those sucker were on so tight.Originally Posted by Synetix250
i read this post a coupel hours ago and randomly decided to try initial k's method on my lunch hour cause I was bored. it seems to be a little easier and less nerve-racking than taking out the scrwes and pulling the housing down. if you work really carefully, you can pop off the lense without damaging any plastic surrounding it. and if you look real close you can see the two tabs near the corners of the lense on where to put your credit card, screwdriver or whatever you're using. when i get my led's i'm gonna use the lense pop off method.

I'd rather just take the whole assembly apart and eliminate any risk of damaging the plastic. It takes less than 5 minutes. My $0.02.

I agree... The dome cover is easily scratched when trying to pry it out.Originally Posted by brociouz

Know what you're doing and you'll be okay. Otherwise, you're just gotta be safe and take the longer way.

^ Of course, but if someone is posting in a thread seeking advice on how to remove the dome light cover, they probably DON'T know what they're doing.
I knew what I was doing, having opened that dome several times, and I still managed to scratch it up slightly. Just not worth IMO when the alternative is only a couple of extra minutes.

i agree the two outside bulbs are in there pretty good, but a firm pull and its out.

i agree...i took out the dome line through the firs tmethod of just trying to pop the plastic..and man got scratches here and there all over the place...even got a seasoned i mean seasoned (30+ yr) mechanic try and take it out nicely and even he was complaining about how easy it is to scratch....then i found out how easy it is just to pop out the screws..pop out the top console and switch out the light..Originally Posted by brociouz

it honestly isnt' that much harder to pop out your sunglass console area...instead of trying to take out that white plastic..

I used a set of screwdriver type of devices to pull dome cover off. They are the Kobalt brand of tools at Lowe's and they are a set of three that look like the thing that dentist pick around on your teeth.
I used the one that had a 45 degree hook on the end. The thing about these tools is that they have a very sharp point which using the 45 degree tool bites down good just inside the dome , and the fact that it's small and sharp It pulled down both dome covers with ease. Took 8 minutes to get the job done.
I can see how using a screwdriver might not be the best option, you run the risk of scraping damage to the dome cover.
Hope this helps.

i have an '11 IS250 and i am trying/wondering if you can change out the LED in between the "DOOR" and "ON/OFF" buttons. its a mood light that is dimly lite when the lights are on. id like to change it out for a brighter LED. TIA.

^ If it's anything like the reading lights in earlier models, it's not an easy change. You have to take the assembly apart and solder on a new LED.

i think the moodlight led is actually in a similar unit as the footwell lighting one. so if you can find an aftermarket unit, you should be able to swap it out.
otherwise soldering will be required. goodluck
