when I am changing my oil. I drained all my oil but I tried to take off the oil filter housing but the the part i used to take off the oil filter housing broke while trying to take off the housing. I have no extra car to go buy another one so I am kind of stuck. How often are you supposed to change the oil filter btw?

use sand paper/grip tape, its a trick i use to remove the oil filter. you really should replace it though, oil is dirty and there should be tons of build up in it.

I think I read it somewhere that
you can keep the oil filter for 10k if you are using synthetic engine oil
(please correct me if I'm wrong )

I bought the car used from a dealership and I went to about 8k since the last change and this is my first oil change. I've had the car about 2 months. I am kind of at work so I dont have all the necessary tools like I do at home such as sand paper or grip paper. How hard is it supposed to be to take off the oil filter anyways? I tried really hard but I might of went the wrong way. I was pulling and pushing towards the front of the car.

after awhile the filter builds up pressure so its really hard to remove. i would say run the car for now, and replace that filter asap. when replacing the filter, oil will fall out so be sure to check your oil level and add oil as needed.

Okay, borrowed a car. I bought a second one and that broke too, again. FuUUU. Am I going the wrong way?

Pulling the handle towards the front of the car is the correct direction. I broke the filter housing removal tool too (bought from Oreilly's). I went to walmart and bought the fram oil filter wrench and bent it the first time using it. I bent it back into shape and it worked the second time around.

Are you using a 64mm filter wrench to remove the filter cap? It shouldn't take much effort to loosen it with a wrench... i can loosen mine with my bare hand with a latex glove on with little effort.

got the filter tool to get it off. should be easy.

The filter unscrews counter-clockwise, it's a standard thread. The last person to change your oil probably tightened it too much. The Assenmacher TOY640 that XprincoX linked is the tool I use, and it works well. Unlike the stamped metal (size F) tool that quickly bends out of shape or the plastic tools that break easily.

With 8,000 miles on your filter, I would definitely change it.

Contrary to what most believe the filter is safe to use for longer then the life of the oil. Not to worry, just change it ASAP.

You can use the filter a little longer but I personally wouldn't. You could always do the old screwdriver trick. Hammer it through the end of the filter, and turn it.

Okay, I had to go to a shop and take it off. They used a lift and the guy struggled with a giant wrench thingy to take it off. It was on there pretty tight. I definitely wouldnt be able to get it off in the position i was in. They did it for free since I decided to get an inspection also. Second question, since this is my first time changing my own oil, do I want the oil in between the two dots or closer to the top dot and should i check it when engine car is on or off?

Which equates to approx 6 Qts. & 19 Ozs.

it's the other way round....

if you have syn oil, you can keep the oil for 10K and change the filter every 5K.......
