High Beam Options
Hey Everyone,
Thanks so much for the help thus far on everything. Now, I have a question about the headlights....High Beams in particular......
What are my high beam options? My wife has an 06 IS 250 and the factory high beams are "yellow". I believe they are just cheap replacement bulbs.
She wants it to have that bright white/slightly blue look and absolutely hates that they are yellow.....
So...Can I do HID in the high beams or is it a waste?
Will I lose the DRLs if I install HID?
What are the best options for replacement bulbs (non HID)? Are they 9005s or H11s, I can't remember? I know I hear really good things about PIAA bulbs.
Thanks so much for the help!

Thanks for the reply. All I can seem to find in PIAA is either 4000K or 4100K. It says Intense White and Xtreme White.
I know that 6000K is theoretically White....Can I purchase one of these and be happy pairing it with some 8000K HIDs in my low beams?
Thanks again for all the help!

^^ the VLEDS will give you the bluish/white look of a 6000K bulb, but you will loose the high beam function. If it's looks that your after then LEDS are a good choice. If you want to keep your high beam function then go with PIAA bulbs or Nokya 4300K yellows.
You're simply not going to get a pure HID-white from a halogen. Your best bet is just to just get Silverstars or something similar.
BTW - 4100/4300K in HID temp is white. 6000K is not "theoretically" white. It is in fact, blue. Anything above 4100/4300K, i.e. manufacturer OEM specs has less output the higher you go. You're wanting a good, bright, functional high beam that doesn't look ****-yellow, but then talk about pairing them up with 8000K low beams, which cast a deep blue light on a black surface. That's not exactly the best combo for reflectivity or safety. A true 8000K barely outputs more than stock halogens, and like I said, doesn't offer a lot of contrast on the road. You do realize that the blue wavelength is very short and therefore stressful on the eyes, right?
Go with 4100/4300K OEM temps in the lows and the whitest halogen in the highs. Running an LED in the DRL spot is purely cosmetic and offers zero output, as well as deletes your high beam. HID's in the high beam will be short lived, given the fact that HID bulbs/ballasts don't like to be constantly switched on and off. No OEM car period uses a stand-alone HID bulb for a high beam, and there's a reason for that.
