Test drove a Nissan 370z over the weekend...

If we're talking just straight line, then "dust" is probably too strong of an assessment.
IS 350 will win to 60 from a dig (.3 s)
370z will win the quarter mile (.07 s)
370z will win to 100 MPH from a dig and will win a 60-100 roll (and probably other rolls as well) by a lot (~1s)

overall there's no denying that the 370z is fast as hell, I will admit that wholeheartedly. It will destroy the 350 if you put in corners.
even in a straight line, the 370z wins "soundly" (I'd say) but it's not some ungodly holy **** *** rapeage or anything.
If you compare the IS 350 with its true infiniti competitor (G37), IS 350 wins from a dig to 60. from a dig to 100 it's dead even. IS 350 wins in the quarter mile. G37 will win from 60 to 100, though.
Also I agree with Faymester and Phiber's classifications of the 370z and the IS 350.
IS 350 being a luxury car with a "hint of sport" is a perfect assessment in my opinion.
370z is certainly more of a "sporty" car than the IS 350, but not quite in the full fledged "sports car" classification. It's pretty close, though.
Everything is on a spectrum. I guess at the end of the day, where we draw the lines is arbitrary.
