Update: I took in the car today. The tech felt the problem, too. Thank God! (It's frustrating when the dealer doesn't experience the problem.)
The dealer called me and said that the steering rack needs to be replaced. They should have it done tomorrow (now that's service!). We'll see if it fixes the problem.
Thanks for all your input.

i kinda felt this today in my is250 .... after i correct the car to the left my car will continue to slightly drift to the left even though my steering wheel is center ... and same thing for right ...
i'm kinda scare the dealership will blame it on my f sport springs tho.... i had them installed at outside shops

The only thing I can contribute to this thread is that my car before this was a honda civic. The steering was a lot heavier in the civic (not to my liking anymore, not enough power steer in my opinion) but more frustrating was the fact that I often had to concentrate way too hard to keep my civic going straight.
On turns it was fine, but when it came to going straight, my civic had a multitude of problems. Alignment was no good and the dealership never fixed it properly (I was sick of going to the dealership again and again).
It all started when my right wheel hit a curb going 40 MPH and resulted in a flat tire. I told them about this but they did not find anything wrong.
I'm thinking that incident caused some sort of alignment problem that was maybe too subtle to notice but significant enough to cause me grief during driving.
After coming from that civic, the '09 IS steering feels like a dream. It's 1000 times easier to stay in the lane, almost no effort involved.
I think the '09 IS steering "weight" and feel is just perfect. I felt power steering on the C class mercedes was a bit too much
