  1. Select a garage door opener switch for transmitter code registration.
  2. Press and hold the selected switch for 20 seconds . The garage door opener will enter registration mode. HINT: Before entering registration mode, the LED is ON. After entering registration mode, the LED flashes at a cycle of 1 Hz . For a" rolling code" type system, after entering registration mode, the LED flashes at a cycle of 8.8 Hz for 1.6 seconds , and then the LED flashes at a cycle of 1 Hz .

  1. After the garage door opener has entered registration mode, bring the original transmitter of the system to be registered within 1 to 3 inches of the garage door opener switches. Then press the original transmitter switch.
    1. If the transmitter code registration was successful, the LED of the garage door opener flashes at a cycle of 5.6 Hz . If no malfunction occurs, release both the garage door opener switch and the original transmitter switch. HINT:

LOL! how long have you had your car? You're just figuring out now how to program? The first thing I did when I got my car was program the garage opener. It could be PITA programming with rolling codes though.

dude. hold down whichever button you wanna use. the LED will blink slowly. then press your garage door remote near it. the LED will blink faster until it stops blinking completely. your garage door frequency will then be registered into the homelink.

We just got a new garage door, installed by a friend of the family. I went through the programming steps like 5 times before i realized...... After you program the car, you have to press the "program" button on the garage door (ours is on the wall remote in the garage) twice, and then press the newly programmed button in the car. (rolling codes). Then the garage door lights blink, confirming.

But it still didn't work until i THEN realized that you don't just tap the button to open the door... You have to hold it for like a half second. Juuuust longer than a touch. But I'm used to it now.

I picked a random manufacturer for the garage door opener but I followed these instructions and got it working within 5mins.

press longer... it would blink once it has learnt the code.... iff you have a garage opener which has the training button at the back of it... like if it is a house... you might need to read more into the car manual

    1) Press and hold L and R button in car (for a WHILE, like 20 secs) until it flashes. (I did this with the door CLOSED.
    2) Hold garage door remote a few inches from your visor, press and hold the remote button and the desired button to be programmed, until it flashes to confirm (like 3 seconds for me). Door will OPEN.

Old school garage doors will be done programming... for rolling codes and newer doors, continue...

    3) Press the program button in your garage (mine said press twice)
    4) press (i have to hold mine like a half second) visor button.
    5) Garage lights blink to confirm (at least mine did)

    Programming is complete.

NOTE: I have to press and hold my visor button like a half a second, as I mentioned. With my old garage door opener, i just had to tap it quick. Must be something to do with the rolling codes...

If you've only had it a year, you need to erase any prior programming. This is Lextasy23's "Step 1".

I had a hard time initially programming my HomeLink buttons, but then I put fresh battereis in my Genie remote, and after that it worked 1st try.

He meant two outer most buttons (1st and 3rd buttons) below the mirrors to erase previous stored codes. You don't have to do this if the car is new or previous owner didn't program it.
