Redouts illegal?
can i get pulled over by cops for having redouts on the rear signals? do the backlights have to contain amber? i want to order the redouts but concerned over this issue..thanks!
I do not know about NY but in California you can, but I doubt any cop will notice (nor have I heard of an incident of that happening on CL) since it is not noticeable and red turn signals are not a rare thing; however, smoking it will get a lot of attention.
nah should be just fine, i drove by all the pigs on motocycle in south cali , they were rite next to me , its legal, yes all the american cars has its also , maybe if you front tint windows are darker than 35% then watch out, better drive with sunroof open lolz
i believe this is law for ALL car in america (could be just cali) but dont quote me
rear turn signals can either be RED or AMBER (YELLOW)
front turn signals can either be AMBER or WHITE
and if you have side markers, side mirrors signals, etc they have to be AMBER.
if its on the side mirrors (like on some escalades, SUVs, etc) they have to be RED.
hope that helps
but as other's said, its not going to be a problem.
if a cop DOES pull you over, which they probably wont *knock on wood*, tell them that civics, tc's, some pontiacs come red taillight stock.

Realistically though, would a cop notice that and pull you over for it? Probably not, because as others have pointed out there are plenty of cars with red signals. But if you were to get pulled over for say speeding or making an illegal u-turn etc. the cop might take a closer look at your car and notice that the vinyl is on there. Overall though the risk is low, it makes the car look better with little effort, and that's why we do it.
darkdream is correct, technically in CA you could get a ticket for having the redouts on your tails/turn signals. The issue is NOT the color; there is a CA vehicle code that says you cannot modify your stock lights in any way to obstruct the light, and guess what, a piece of red vinyl stuck to the taillights does that. So would painting them or tinting them.
