Throttle Body Cleaning?
Are any of you guys familiar with what a throttle body cleaning entails? After getting my 30k service at Lexus of Bellevue recently, they service advisor recommended that getting a throttle body cleaning in the near future would probably allow a small increase in power for the car.
Of course...it would cost around $300. Is what he said true and is it even worth it? Thanks! |
You can do it yourself. Unbolt your intake from the intake manifold and spray some throttle body cleaner into it.

Same here. I wouldnt bother getting it done there or at all, if any. The throttle body cleanings I have done were on cars over 100,000 miles. Ours are still new :)

i am about 33000 miles now. Lexus of Seattle have not mentioned anything about it :uh: i guess they want your money :p

Wow I'm undercharging at my buisiness.....throttle body cleaning keep the plates clean around the throttle body allowing the plate to sit flush. After a certain amount of mileage they will build up a crusty soot around the seat area of the throttle plate. Cleaning it with a foaming throttle cleaner (dont use carb clean or brake clean) and an old toothbrush will do the trick......
It wont increase HP..but in the long run it helps to keep the idle smooth and easier start ups. Good luck!!!! |
any pics of which part to clean... i'm kinda confused on which part to spray/..

http://www.94supra.com/mods/throttle_body_01.jpg Instructions from Mobil Oil. I don't do it exactly the way Mobil describes, but their methodology isn't bad at all. |
I use Berryman BR12 ChemTool and a Dremel with a steel brush.
You may not "need" it at 30K, but if you do clean it now, it won't be as bad at 60K. Annual intake air filter changes (including cabin and seats) help your car a lot. |
30k's pretty early to think about doing this.
the increase in power line is a lure |
Wow, just got the same deal over at lexus of bellevue as well today. I'm a tick over 50k and they suggested cleaning the fuel injectors and throttle body. for something like $335.
do you guys think its worth it at 50k? |
