Cleaning F-Sport air filter element?

How often do you guys clean your air filters in the F-Sport intake? I'm reading the recommended service intervals on the instructions it says

"Service your F Sport air filter element with F Sport's filter cleaning kit Lexus p/n PTR03-53085) at the Lexus recommended service intervals to maintain optimal performance"

So that would be every 5k right?

Anyone actually try the cleaning kit yet... i'd assume its similar to the k&n cleaning/oiling kit

Not for sure on the F-Sport... But I would think it would be about 30K before you would need to use the cleaning kit. Unless you live in a very dusty area.

Every other oil change is good enough for these kinds of filters..either way every 9-10k miles. Just hose it down like crazy with water very thoroughly and let it COMPLETELY DRY before re-installing it. Not sure if the filter recharge kit made specifically for the F-Sport intake requires you to put oil but I personally wouldn't..never liked the idea of oil spraying all over your MAF sensor

You are right, the maintenance schedule says replace the air filter (or in the case of F-Sport to clean it) every 30K miles if you're not driving in dirt or dusty roads. I would personally clean it every 15K miles. That said, I always forget to buy the cleaning kit from Sewell everytime I get something from them. Next time I'll get it for sure.

yeah that was what i was thinking every 15-20k. Or at least taping/vacuuming it clean after every oil change. Not really sure if it needs oil tho...

what does the cleaning kit contain?

My guess is if it's anything like kn kit its a bottle of cleaner and oil... can anyone confirm?

I don't think it has any oil as it says on Sewell's site the filter material is high-flow dry polyester. I could be wrong but I think the cleaning would be similar to the AEM. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBoS_...eature=related

Kind of an old thread... but has anyone ordered the F-Sport Intake cleaning kit from Sewell? I just received mine but it's made from TRD and it comes with a cleaner spray and oil bottle. Just wondering if I got the wrong "cleaning kit" and if there really is a F-Sport branded cleaning kit. Probably doesn't matter since it's just another Toyota name tacked on...

IIRC, it's a white bottle with F-Sport label on it.

So just 1 bottle of cleaning solution? No oil?

pisaykotik 04-01-09 03:44 PM

^Yup that's it, 1 bottle.

kickin8 04-01-09 10:36 PM

no oil...cleaner only

Alright.... after calling like 4 dealerships (and Lexus headquarters!), no one seems to know about the F-Sport cleaning kit. I even gave them the part number listed in the F-Sport instructions but they all came up with the TRD cleaning/oil kit. I called Sewell and they told me that you guys are correct. There is no oil and the bottle is labeled F-Sport. They're going to send me the correct one today... to Sewell!

Anyway, just to let people know.... if you're planning on buying the cleaning kit from a local dealership, you're probably going to get the incorrect TRD kit (with oil).

^^ Glad you got that all figured out...

I was trying to research this for you, but it just seems you received the wrong cleaning / oiling kit from them...

So all you need is the cleaner, as these filters are Not Oiled...
Good to know.....

BTW - How's the fitment on your drop in filter???
