To me full service means they wash the windows and check the fluids too. I know in Oregon they call it "mini-serve" when all they do is pump the gas.

My brother-in-law (who lives in Oregon) laughs about that too. At first it was strange when they moved up from CA. Now after living up there for 10+ years he gets annoyed at having to actually get out of the car when he finds himself across the border in Washington needing gas.

I'd be a little concerned if someone else did the filling besides myself. As I tend to be very careful when I do get gas, I know that there won't be any surprise scratches, or gas spilled on my paint when I do it.
Now, with that being said, even if I was handicapped, I don't know of too many stations here in So. California that would even have someone around to pump gas for me. Most stations have only one employee- the cashier. The mechanics are usually far too busy to drop what they're doing to pump gas all day.

NJ station owners pay for gas attendants. You would think gas price would go down some if the state would go pump your own.
The lesser cost would be nice but to the more important thing is pumping my own gas all the time.
When I had my restored '69 Corvette I sold recently at the pump, the gas attendant would just hand me the pump,though..

i'm glad to have started this nice discussion, but back to the original question. does anyone else think this would be a good idea? i mean they have the clear bra piece that you can install below the gas door, but i dont want to see the lines from that. if the cap could have some kind of a softer ring outside, it wouldn't damage the paint. maybe i should try to make my own

I really think there are more important things to worry about, like rock chips on the front. You can try to make your own, but I don't think it will do much good in practice.

I don't even let other ppl want my car (because I always get stuff broken at car washes...), it's hard to imagine not being able to pump my own gas. Now you can't even find a full service gas station in socal anymore, at least not in my area.

To the OP:

Why not just pull/cut the lanyard off? That way, it can't dangle and scratch the paint.
