Default 2008 IS250 totalled??

My Dad picked up a 2008 IS250 about 3 weeks ago. Last week, with only 500 miles on it, he gets rear ended by a company work truck, which then pushes him into a car in front of him. Rear sub frame is buckled as far forward as the rear seats, roof is buckled and rear fenders as well. Body shop estimates $20k to repair the car. My question is should the insurance company that covers the driver that hit us pay to repair the car OR just buy my Dad a new car??? Thanks for your guys' help.

for sure buy a new car, a car is NEVER the same after an accident. Especially if there is frame damage.

$20K in damage? That car is done. Go through your insurance (which will in turn deal with their insurance) because that car will need to be totalled, and you don't want their insurance cutting any corners to save money.

Most definitely. If what you say about the roof buckling and the amount of subframe damage is true, your father definitely doesn't want that car back. It shouldn't take much effort at all to have it declared a total loss.

^It doesn't matter what kind of coverage he has - what does matter is the insurance of the company that owns the work truck that caused the accident.

I saw the roof today, right by the sunroof there is a buckle. Behind the rear seat there was a buckle and the sheet metal started to separate. They said they are going to cut off the back half of the car up to the rear seats!!

Most insurances are now promising to replace a car if it's under one year old. Don't know about his policy though.

Don't let the repair costs fool you--it's majorly expensive to repair this car. Especially if it's new--the insurance co will require OEM parts. I had an accident and the front bumper and grille were smashed, and some of the mecahanical equipment behind the bumper. There was no structural damage, no damage to the tires, headlights, hood, fenders. Even the headlight washers and foglights were in tact--total bill was $9500. So--I'm surprised, with structural damage, and front and rear end damage, that the estimate is *only* $20,000.

It's really up to the insurance company. For the most part, though, if you let them know that you didn't want the car fixed, they would total it.
