Default Pics of car

Here are some pics of the car. When i first saw it it didnt look bad but once the body shop took it apart and showed me the frame being buckled in 3 places (behind rear seats, right in front of spare tire well and lt suspension) as well as the left rear fender being pushed in and the roof buckling.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Yeah. Totalled.

The car basically have to be structurally reassembled, which costs more than the car itself, not including paint and cosmetic issues.

Now after the body shop told us they wouldnt start removing parts and ordering new parts until they received auth from the insurance, we went in there Friday and they had ordered parts and took the tail ights, int trim and rear seats out already, without any auth from the insurance company. The estimate they provided us was for 13k and they said it would go up another 6-7 k after they took the car completely apart, meaning fenders and suspension. We asked for a complete estimate with a more close to final number and the body shop guy said well its going to take 10 days to get you that and we will only give you an estimate if we repair the car.

I understand the body shop is in the business to fix cars but if it is so close in to being totalled why cant they help us??

Because they are in the buisiness to fix cars. Once the insurance company totals the car. The car will be sold to a wrecker for dismantle. The dismantler will either fix the car and resale as salvaged or might just strip the car for parts. There is no incentive for the body shop to "convince" an insurance adjuster to just total the car. Even then though...most insurance adjusters will determine if just selling the car to a dismantler is more cost effective then to pay out and have the car fixed. Most of the time the adjuster dont need any opinions from the body shop to make a decision. Adjusters have an estimate program that gives them cost of mfg parts and a labor guide. So that is why it seems that the body shop has no interest to help you out. They will lose the repair to a "total out".... then again as I said before...the body shop most of time dont have that much influence.

sorry to hear this...is the car not written off??
Did your dad buy theft/lost insurance which you can buy, that covers new vehicles for 5yrs. no extra cost to you(depreciated value) when your vehicle is written off due to accident or considered lost due to theft, you get a brand new vehicle of that year?

So here is the latest. The body shop provided us with a close to final estimate of $19700. They say this could go up a little more once they tear the car down. The adjustor has a call into the total loss dept to see whether they will total it out. I hope they do!!

Default Update

Insurance just called and they are totalling the car out!! The supervisor called and said that we are wasting time getting estimates. It is a 500 mile old car !! Now they just want to see the invoice of what was paid and they will write us a check.
