I think 35% is pretty much safe in any state for the front windows. It's up to you, but I'm not a big fan of having different shades of tint all over the car.

I have 15% on my rear window, 20% on my rear sides, and 35% on my front sides.. and i really like the faded look. Its subtle.. but works very well.
In CA, having tint on the front windows is illegal unless you have a verified doctor's note.
Regardless, illegal or not, I have 20% in back and 35% up front. I thought it wouldn't look good with different percentages but it actually blends in really well. If I see a cop around, I usually roll down the front windows.
To the OP, you should find out what's legal/illegal in your state before you tint your windows again, assuming you don't want the cops to hassle u...

I read up about this, and theres actually more to it than that. The "tint" has to be removable for night driving. So even with a Dr.'s note, the tint has to be removable. CA sucks.

Like, those sun shields that are attached to your window with suction cups. Film is not allowed to be applied to the front windows... At least thats whats ive heard from discussing it with a few of my local cop friends.
