Default New to the Lexus world...

Well I have been looking around and I have decided I want to pick up a 2nd gen IS.

I currently drive a 2004 Impreza RS

Time to grow up and move into something else. I was thinking either a Subaru Legacy or Lexus IS250. I'm looking for something a little different so I have my heart set on the IS.

some pics of my impreza

School me on the IS i'm hear to learn

haha, I'm thinking about doing the opposite of what you are doing.

I have a 2007 IS250 I do like the car but its a bit boring. I actually liked driving my Acura Integra GSR more then my IS once I sold it.

I might pick up a 2009 Subaru STI next year.

I was like you. As I am getting order I thought I needed a more refined car. But I realized I like a more drivers car then a refined car. Plus the new Subaru STI hatch has plenty of room if I decide to have a kid in the future it would be great safe car for that. You wouldnt even be able to fit a stroller in the trunk of the 2IS. I go snowboarding and no way you can fit a snowboard in the Lexus because the back seats don't fold down. Lots of things to consider when buying the 2IS.

If I could go back in time I would of drove my Acura GSR for two more years and jump straight into a 2009 STI.

If you truly have your mind set on getting an IS and are coming from a tuner friendly car get the IS350 NOT the IS250. Because I guarantee you will be disappointed in the IS250, maybe not as first but as times goes by you will. As least if you get the IS350 the only thing you have to fall back on is the cars power.

be sure to test drive the 350 also, make sure you can live with 250s power. You can probably find a used 350 for the same price as a newer 250. There arent any major changes from 06-08

My previous car was a 2003 Cobra.. Last dyno was 447 rwhp. I got the IS350 as I have been craving a car with a nice interior for many years. All my earlier cars were also American V8's with crappy interiors.

The IS350 is tons more fun to drive. Handles better, really nice interior, nice ride, good to look at. There is more to life then just horsepower, and this Lexus proves it.

Yes well it's either a used 350 or a new 250... What ever I can get my hands on. Thanks for the comments guys.

Also what are the pros and cons you can think of the on your cars? Is the 350 worth the extra money? RWD vs AWD?

thanks

Air diffusers...

Honestly the extra speed in the 350 is just too hard to ignore and its better suited from your jump from a WRX to a Lexus.

The 250 is entertaining but I think you would miss the speed.

Well no he wont miss the speed because he had an RS which is a nonturboed version with the 2.5l engine.

I had a 2003 WRX same gen Subie before my IS350. In my WRX I had TurboXS piggyback ecu, full turboback exhaust w/highflow cats, upgraded intercooler and hoses, and pulleys. It still wasn't as fast as my IS is stock now and it was way more rough and noisy. If you had a highly boosted WRX then you wont be happy with a 250 but if your's was a RS then it'll be fine. Having driven the RS before and also a 250 I'd say that the 250 is a slight bit faster.. maybe.... but the RS is jumpier off the line due to the boxer torque at low speeds. Coming from driving a modded wrx the stock IS350 feels driving a cloud that can go really fast, effortlessly. If you go with a 250 well you'll just feel like driving a slower cloud. The Lexus is just really plush smooth quiet and nice compared to the subie. If that's what you want then the IS is for you.

Power is not a big deal to me... Looking for a nice daily driver. Trunk space it's a big deal because my girlfriend has a 08 subaru forester too.

I went the used 350 route here in Ottawa .... mainly because the price of a new 350 was insane (in Canada) compared to the 250. Also got $18K on a trade for my 6.5 year old IS300 which helped.

Been getting lots of snow this year here .... if you have to drive on unplowed roads, or hills, with more than 4 inches down it can be brutal .... I have never measured but we must only have 5-6 inches clearance an these cars. Would have loved AWD this winter.

That being said, going back over the years of driving mine, or my brothers, '67 Mustang, '72 Vette, '82 Camaro, '90 Mustang, '01 IS300 or this '06 IS350 ........ you can't beat the 350 for combination of refinement and punch.

Since power is not a requirement for you go for the 250 AWD.

Another member to the CL group is always welcome, however I must warn you, space and packaging are not things the 2IS is good at. The trunk is ok, but the rear seats do not fold down, you only get a pass-through for long items. Not sure how it is compared to an Impreza, but big it isn't.
