Default Opening the Moon Roof

I'm wondering what one of the functions of the turn-**** does. I know that:

1. When you press it the moon roof opens fully.
2. Press it again it closes fully
3. Turn it counter clockwise it tilts
4. Turn it clockwise it opens depending on how far you turn the ****.
5. If you turn it so that it is in between the circle and the little car with an open roof, it opens fully.

But... you can also turn the **** a little more. It springs back to the "fully open" position but what does it do? Why can you turn the **** further? In my old car this would open the moon roof ALL the way... as in you wouldn't see the glass at all.

Am I making any sense??

Yeah, you're making sense. That just keeps you from breaking the switch if you turn it too hard.

Who knows why they did it this way.... The idea of two "open" settings I always found to be really weird. Its almost like it was not intended to work that way, but it does. There have been a couple of threads discussing it in the past too.

I might be the minority here, but I hate the ****. Just give me a switch like the windows and I would be happier.

my only pet peeve about the moonroof (hell about the car period) is that there isn't an automatic close setting when you turn the car off or forget. I had a 97' 4runner before my IS and after 10 years of driving it i still loved that feature. (sigh)

I have a 97 runner with a moonroof, why doesnt mine do that? It just stays open.

Back to topic; I think lexus should still allow the push button operation with the rotary dial set at your desired position. Say you like the roof 3/4 of the way open, they should allow you to leave it set there with the dial and just push to open and close to that position, like they do with the full open and close.

Yes, auto close is after market sunroof. Is it branded ASC? Illuminates Red or Green right?

as long as you don't open a door, you have a 30sec power reserve to close the windows.

I thought "open" was optimum open without wind noise intrusion, and fully open was fully open, the heck with wind noise...
