heard a really loud crack/pop noise that came from the left rear compartment.. almost sounded like a piece of metal snapped, kinda like when i snapped my endlinks at the race track during an off camber corner in my volvo. like a bolt snapped or something. it happened when i was entering a driveway (super slowly) and the car was "unloaded" on the front left and right rear tires.

any ideas b4 i start pok'n around?

Yeah, check to see if one of the rubber grommets popped out of the mud flap in front of the rear tire.
