Default Is the birds eye maple wood trim real wood?

Is the birds eye maple wood trim actually real wood, or is it just a cheap wood pattern print? Maybe its a veneer (a thin top layer of real wood)?

It's "genuine" per the brochure, but I believe it's veneer.

Yes, it is real.

It's a very thin piece of highly laquered wood attached to a backing.

Yeah usually when a black cat crosses my path i always knock on the wood finish. Hopefully i wasn't just pretending to remove the superstition as opposed to "really" removing it. Hahahah..

All the wood used in our IS is real and all comes from one piece of wood.

The pieces are labeled and numbered than sent out to be finished. When finished the labeling allows Lexus to identify and use them 'all' in the same car so the wood matches up.

Nice touch but than it is a Lexus

You can read about it by going to the beginning of this forum and check industry news if I remember correctly. Goes into much detail on how the wood is handled.

On some Lexus' I see they have grey colored wood trim. It kind of looks like grey marble. I think its called Dark Grey Birds Eye or something like that. I think it would look very nice in the 2IS.

I think someone should PhotoShop different interior trim options...

Yes, the wood in all Lexus vehicles is real wood. Lexus actually commissioned Yamaha to get them wood for the first LS 400 because they were looking for wood that would compare to quality instruments. (This may still be true today.... I'm not sure) The Golden Birdseye Maple in my GX is absolutely gorgeous. I still oogle at it after years of ownership.

Lexus should lighten up on the stain color in the IS. It's too red for a sports sedan. Would like to see some lighter, more natural finishes, and something more in the brown range as well.

I like how it has some red instead of brown hues. Looks much more "rich" versus the brownish wood.

Real or not, I think it looks great in the IS.
