Anyone else thinks the Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) doesn't work that well?
I don't know about you guys but to get the AFS headlights to move even a bit it takes like 2 full turns of the wheel. It just plain doesn't work in normal driving conditions where twisty roads don't require you to turn past 9 or 3 o'clock. I think I read somewhere that someone had a ES350 loaner car and the AFS worked beautifully and was very noticeable.

My AFS headlights move with less than a 1/4 turn.
|
I haven't really noticed it move when turning but I have noticed it go lower and higher which is pretty cool. I got to pay more attention when I drive at nigth and see if it the headlight move when I turn.

I don't have this feature.. but when i had a ES350 as a loaner.. It didn't seem all that great.. it kind of threw me off when I was driving at night.. maybe cause i wasn't use to it... all in all..i can live without it.

I like it and think it's a pretty cool feature. However I think it is most effective on very dark roads where there are little to no street lights.

Try zig zagging down a street slowly (it doesn't have to be wide turns) and they should sweep side to side pretty well. |
Truthfully, i really havent noticed, when i drive at nite on turns im busy looking at the road rather than where my lites are pointing, i'm thinking of just turning it off since its just more stuff to fix when it breaks.

^^^^^LOL^^^^^
Yeah more parts more fixin! Either way my AFS works great. I notice it. It's not that big a difference but its better than nothing. |
I haven't really run into situations where the lights moving have made a significant difference for me.
If there was an option to just get the HIDs without the moving and save a few bucks, I would have done that. |
i like it, i think it works pretty well just in terms of lighting the road with a slow turns at night. but i can see where ur coming from, i can def live without this feature haha. but what im wondering is how my headlamps look when they move, i always wish i could record them moving when i drive
|
I think it's very noticeable--but I ususally drive on roads with streetlights, so the jury's out how useful a feature it is.
|
i have it and love it.esp when i'm in a tight road that turns (right or left) while i'm taking the turn i don't need to turn on the high beams to warn opposite driver's to not drive in the middle, they will see my turning lights first.

This might be a dumb question but does anyone know why the left turns 20 degrees and right is only 5? Why couldn't it just be the same for both?

I would think it's to keep the lights from shining on the side of the road.
