30K Checkup
I was wondering what everyone is getting charged for their 30K checkup. I took my Mom's RX 330 in yesterday for its 30K and it cost $589 - labor of $374 with the remaining $215 being parts, etc. I thought that seemed pretty steep. My IS is at 29K - do I need to get ready to get hosed??
That is the typical price for the 30k mile check-up at a dealership.
However, most people don't think this check-up is "detrimental." It's thorough, but not detrimental. People hold off from this check-up until 60k miles.
No harm done. You're car is just extra pampered now. Pricey, but pampered.

I don't have the list of stuff with me, but basically it was checking belts, hoses, inspecting brakes/wheels, changing air filter, cabin air filter, oil/filter, rotating/balancing/4 wheel tire alignment, new wiper blades, road check, some other basic stuff.
oh, and lol if they changed your brake fluid or coolant at 30k miles...
What's at 45k miles then, changing the spark plugs? Dealerships make me lol

30k dealer service is unnecessary, you should be looking to replace the tires by now anyway-they can't really be rotated properly anyway because no front to rear. The air filter should have been changed by now a few times and you can do it yourself, same with the oil. Fluids shouldn't need any work.
What's the note on page 67 re coolant? I don't have my manual with me or I would look myself..
Not really sure the brake fluid needs changing...But it would seem to make more sense to do it when doing pads. Without the TSIB they could be close by 30K..or 40K at best.
Does the IS use regular old DOT 4 fluid? If so you can get a flush for around $40

I had the 30K on my RX330 done and I asked my SA to do what is absolutely necessary and nothing more. My bill with the oil change, air filter, in cabin filter, etc. was about $237 IIRC. A more than acceptable amount to keep the warranty intact, IMHO.
I think most SA's will work with you to avoid the unnecessary fluff if you ask.

Coolant is good to 120k according to Toyco. It's the extra long life pink stuff.
Brake fluid change? Seriously? Maybe a bleed and a top off, but not a full change, nobody wants to bleed brakes that badly. Hmmm. Must be time to order those Earl's bleeder screws for one person brake bleeding.
