Key Transponder Scratches?
I would like to take that little leather wrap off the key transponder to reduce bulk, but I'm worried about it getting all scratched up (life as an ipod owner changes you in ways you wouldnt expect!). Am i being completely OCD about this? Does anyone know if they are prone to scratches?

The dealer tried to put mine on when he was handing me the keys. I said no thanks and put them in the bag. It's been about 2 weeks since then and I haven't noticed any scratches so far.

I thought for sure I would never put that leather case thing on when i first go my car. No, they dont scratch very easily unless they are dropped on say the street or concrete somewhere else. However the big problem I had was without the leather case they slide very easily right out of your pocket! That I couldnt have as its always in the pocket of slacks, shorts, jeans, you name it. That and IF you DO drop it, in the case nothing will happen to it, but out, you risk actually breaking it as well as scratching it.

Really? The plastic seems kinda cheap to me...
It's fugly, but I keep mine in the leather pouch. It sits in my pocket almost all the time anyway, so I don't care.
I got a few scratches from keys in the same pocket on the first day. It's just a key fob, as someone else mentioned, so NBD.

The leather case is less ugly if you turn the piece of cardboard around so that the black "Lexus" logo shows instead of the beige colored valet instructions.
Mine hasn't been out of the case, but judging by the (uncovered) keys they've handed me to Lexus loaner cars, the case doesn't seem particularly prone to scratching.

I not quite sure about Canada, but Lexus dealerships in the US offer key gloves.
Of course you have to pay around $10 USD, but a mint condition key is priceless.
Actually, no. You could always just buy a new key and get it programmed.
Well, um... not having to deal with the hassle of going to the stealership is priceless .
