Detour Feature is cool

I've had my car for 9 months now and just found this. I left work and needed to meet someone...I knew the general location, but not the address so after plugging it into the nav I found myself on the 55 north leaving the Newport area which sux azz at rush hour for those of you who know it.

I hit 'routes' and found the 'detour' button, I detoured the 'whole trip' and found myself completely lost on random, unknown side roads, but i got there faster than that grid lock would have done me.

I don't use my nav as much as I'd like so I was stoked about this.

Nothing to see here..keep moving along. :eek2::woot::woohoo:

wow must be nice having the navigation, if only i was patient enough to wait for a 350 with navi., but i still love my 350:D

wish i had nav... =(

AfterMarket NAVI FTW....... :P

Yang1815 06-28-07 04:16 AM

yay to navi!

Toptier 06-28-07 06:20 AM

Glad I have NAV for times like that.

Yeah the Detour function is a great alternative, especially since our systems dont have real time traffic monitoring/reporting.

although i regret not getting the original oem unit - i do love my garmin nuvi350!!!

I used this feature the other week. I was trying to get home from work, but there was a big ammonia spill on a major highway here, and they had EVERYTHING blocked off. I just pressed destination 'home', and selected 5 mile detour. It took me through random back streets and got me around the blockage like a dream. Pretty rad.

As long as there is a detour it can figure out. I'm about 50% successful with it so far.

I have nav in both of my cars. Never leave home with out it!

PhilipMSPT 06-28-07 12:04 PM

I love my nav. And it loves me back when I get lost... :D

ben_r_ 06-28-07 12:45 PM

And that is exactly why NAV is necessary!

kensteele 06-28-07 05:32 PM

yep, there's nothing like driving on completely unknown roads with the feeling that you are absolutely not lost.

bagwell 06-29-07 06:21 AM

I've seen this feature but haven't tried it.

.....for those that don't have the OEM, don't feel bad....I think the Garmin NUVI works waaaaay better/simpler. I haven't gotten lost with the great Lexus nav, but the maps were totally wrong/inaccurate while trying to go to a buddy's house that's been there for at least 2 years.

Not to mention the ridiculous restrictions on the Lexus Nav :thumbdn:

Still like the OEM look tho.
