At least, Mercedes has stopped bringing in the lowest powered C class.

Are you serious? The IS 250 is there for those that value luxury and the Lexus experience but have no need to go 0-60 in before the mag racers get here.

The 250 is IDENTICAL to the 350 sans teh engine, like THE GERMANS.

Its ridiculous to compare the IS 250 to the hatchback 318 or C class hatch.

In Europe, they sell 4 cylinder 5 series and 6 cylinder 6 series and S-class cars.

Please open your eyes or do some research.

Lexus is the ONLY brand with 2 distinct cars in this segment. While both are very luxurious and can get to be 45k loaded, they would be considered entry level.

I do think this term is a little old and things have changed a lot. It was easier to say x,b car is entry level. Not anymore, as their prices and features has risen.

The 2IS has more of a "Lexus" image than the 1IS. the 1IS, while having the lowest age buyer of any luxury branded car, left many cold. It wasn't Lexus enough. Some LOVED that feature.

The 2IS did the best job of combining the best of both worlds. The ES is more luxo cruiser.

While the 3 series is the sales champ and all over, it is still, IMO the status champ in this class. I would say the IS/ES and C-class are next, being a Lexus and Mercedes. All others people barely recognize, they simply do not have the brand cache.

*price* of car has nothing to do with it. The *luxo* in the car does. My Sti ran me $34000 and its not entry level luxo.

I thought 250 and 350 have the same amount of space in the back seat. No?

In any case, when I bought my 250 I researched from every angles. I bet you (oldcajun) did not buy whatever you bought based on how fast it can reach 60. Right? And how can you justify the meaning of luxury based on just how fast your car goes? That does not sound logical. I personally do not see that much difference in 250 and 350 based on my preferences. I chose 250 because of high gas mileage since I use it every day. But that does not mean I will attack 350 (or their owners) and claim it's a gas guzzler ! There is good market segment for both cars and both types of folks. ES350 is not in the same segment as the ISx50. So please do not compare grapefruit with navel orange !

Now back to original thread subject..

I find my 250 with nav, spoiler etc far more luxurious than a BMW 330. Everyone's choice and preference varies and so does interpretation of luxury, I could easily have bought a 3 series, but dollar for dollar 250 won hands down. I do not race, nor do I try to take a turn at 60 miles per hour to appreciate how the other sport sedans may have done. I am happy with the luxury that my 250 is affording me. It puts a smile on my face each time I drive, and that my friend is a luxury not all cars can provide. Just my 2 cents.
