Default HID Problem (Possibly a newb question)

To start my passenger side light went out last night after over a month of good use. Got up this morning, checked everything (connections, moved ballasts from one side to the other etc.) only to find that then both lights went out. I then found that the fuses were blown, only to find that the fuse for the passenger light will now blow every time it is replaced when the lights are turned on.....I even tried putting a slightly higher fuse in and it also blew. Does this mean my ballast is already bad?

If it makes a difference it is an MTEC kit purchased from a power seller on ebay....

Thanks in advance for any help

Possibly a short somewhere.

WHere during the start up sequence does it blow?

ie. how soon after start up?

I have the same kit, i returned it and he checked it out, if its the same seller.
It was a bad connection, so i replaced the wire harness. Mine kept flickering on and off.

this is easy to troubleshoot.

You just got to know what you are doing.

may possibly be a 10 minute fix.

make sure its an authentic mtec kit. i have heard that there are many fake ones out there. if its not, that could be your problem.

Blows immediately at start up. You can literally here it pop as you flip on the lights.

The fuse is definitely blown. The problem is it blows again immediately after being replaced when you turn the lights on, on just the passenger side

I'm not really an expert as this is my first kit but it looks fairly authentic to me. It came from a very well rated seller and has serial numbers on the ballasts.

Thats good to hear. I'm beginning to think my only option is to send it back and I was wondering whether to try and contact MTEC directly if they even have a site, or go through the seller.

Personally I think the permanent connection (ie. the cable thats pre-connected to the ballast) is loose. It wiggles around a bit and its rock solid on the other side.

I'll send the seller a message today....thanks to all for the help!

Try disconnecting the battery before installing the new fuse.

How about this...

Try plugging in the halogen bulbs ONLY and turning it ON.

Let us know if this passes the test.
