Default Need advice for scratched bumpers!

Well, I knew it was bound to happen, I've gotten some scratches on my IS 250 bumper. I was wondering what everyone thinks I should do and how to do it. Thanks.

Here are some of the tools I have:
2000 grit sandpaper for wetsanding - novice/ never done before
polishing compound
clear coat
touchup paint for my car

since the bumper part is plastic I would get on beta.lexus-parts.com and emailing daryl dillon and find out what his best price is. Once plastic is scratched you are screwed. You can "try" touch up paint and trying to polish it in, but you will always know it's there. It just depends on how **** you are.

If it was metal it would be a whole different story. metal that would buff right out.

Sorry about your bumper btw. It sucks. I scratched the chit out of my front lip last weekend.

Say, had someone hit me six months ago. Wasn't serious, but put a gouge in the plastic just like you have.

Go to your Lexus dealership and get some paint. Compound it and smooth it down. Put little by little layer down. Make sure you let them dry in between first. You can actually fill in the groove that was carved out! After you have done this, compound it if needed, use some scratch remover (I use McGuire's ScratchX) and buff it out. NO ONE, but you will ever know it's there! It takes some time now, but it's cheaper than a body shop when it's this minor. Trust me.

You can touch that up but it will not look the same as new. I just backed into my mom-in-law's mini-van and scratched the h_ll out of my bumper. Touched it up and most people don't notice it untill I show them, but I know it's there and it's a 2007 so I am getting it re-painted.

I appreciate everyone's advice. I've also posted this question at autopia.com and see what responses I'd get. I'm planning on polishing our the uneven area and fill it with paint and see how that goes. I'll post a pic when I'm done to see how professional or unprofessional it was.

I think if you take your time, and I stress take your time, that you'll find out that it comes out very well. Only you will know. It's MUCH cheaper than paying.

Call me cheap, but sometimes I have to draw a line between what is and what is not warranted to pay if I can do an 80% or better job. That's just me.

Good luck, I think you'll do fine.
