11 cents worth of 89 octane must amount to something like 1/20th of a gallon. It's not going to hurt anything.

Don't fill your tank with 89. The IS350 (and 250 for that matter) are high compression engines. High octane gas serves one purpose and one purpose only... to resist detonation. Detonation is uncontrolled combustion (i.e. small explosions in the combustion chamber when they're not supposed to happen). This breaks things.

If you do accidentally fill up with a lower octane, drive the car very easily until there's enough room to squeeze some more 93 in it. The ECU will pull as much timing as it can to keep detonation in check, but knock sensors aren't perfect.

You'll basically find this information in less detail in your manual.

Don't be worry about it. Just a liltle amount won't hurt anything. But if it's $0.11 worth of water into your car then it will be a big problem. jk.
Enjoy your car and don't worry too much.

I'm sure nothing would happen to the engine even if you filled the tank up completely with 87 octane. Probably not a good idea though.

You might get a slight pinging and a pretty noticable reduction in performance, but other than that probably not much. Although this car is 12:1 or something huge like that. You can get away easier putting that in a car that's like 10.5:1, but I don't know enough about engine's/fuels to give an accurate explanation

Put high octane racing fuel to counter-effect the 89 octane fuel. Just put $0.11's worth of racing fuel though...

Since no one on this list seems to believe a damn word I say, despite their self confessed lack of knowledge and their unfathomable need to spread disinformation, I think I'll take my leave now.

But before I do, I'll leave you this parting tidbit:

Manual Page 384:

If premium fuel is not available, you may use unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating of 87 or so (Research Octane Number 91).
IS250: The use of such gasoline will cause persistent heavy knocking. If severe, this will lead to engine damage.
IS350: The use of such gasoline may cause the engine to knock or drastically reduce output to protect itself while driving with a heavy load. To avoid this, refill the tank with premium unleaded gasoline as soon as possible.

You can fill your tank with 87 oct regular and not hurt anything except the performance. The car has knock sensors that if they detect knock/ping the retard the timing. Not likely you will hurt anything. The amount you are worried about is just fumes.

knock sensor will detect knocking and neuter the performance of your car by changing timings etc

Did you know, that if there is only one handle per pump, then you will get about 1 gallon of whatever was previously pumped.

That sucks! So if you pull up to a pump where someone last used 87, you will get 1 gal of 87. When you leave, whomever drives up next will get 1 gal of 93.

At most gas stations here in Amarillo, the highest octane they have is 90. Can't do anything about that I guess. It must be good enough since I haven't heard any knocking yet.

Wow you guys still have "Full Service"? Drive over a rubber hose and ring ring !... an attendant comes out and fills it up. I haven't seen one of those in CA since 1982

Honestly, no offense, but I can't even believe that someone would even post a thread about 11 cents worth of gasoline. What is that like 10 drops?

And the entire thing about octane and detonation is a load of crap. Even over the long term. As long as it is higher than 80 (which I don't even think you can buy) it isn't going to do anything to your car. I understand the philosophy behind higher octane and detonation, but until I see proof that a car exploded becasue of it, you can run it on any grade gasoline you want.

I've never heard this before. A whole gallon...that is certainly more than .11 cents worth...that would be what $2.50+ worth. Can't believe it.

As for where to get 93, I get it at Sam's Club.
