Default Winter setup - 17" GS wheels work!

I had my winter tires/wheels/sensors installed today on my IS350, and I can confirm that the 17x7.5 OEM GS wheels fit fine. I went with the stock tire size, 225/45 in front and 245/45 in back.

17x7.5 GS wheels - $350 (eBay)
Blizzak LM25 tires - $570 (discount through friend)
TPMS sensors - $340 (lexus-parts.com)
Mount/balance/install - $130 (Lexus)

I also used the calibration menu in the NAV, since I had 18" summer wheels/tires. Before I calibrated, the NAV was a bit off.

Wow, useful solution, and doesn't look bad at all!

Thx a bunch for this post! I've been wondering what rims would work. So would you imagine ANY 17 inch GS rim would clear the front brakes?

I think it really depends on the offset of the wheels. I used the offset calculator on www.1010tires.com, which showed more clearance for the 17x7.5 GS wheels than the IS OEM 17" or 18" wheels. There may be more to it than this, as I'm not a wheel/tire expert!

Kaslead,

I have the same winter setup as well, except I use Dunlop Wintersport M3 tires. My IS went through the last winter and it worked great. It looks stock and the wheel is similar to the OEM 17" IS rims (when looked at a distance)

Guys, do either of you know whether ANY of the other GS rims may clear? Kaslead, what's the magic number you need, to clear the front IS350's calipers?
Thx a bunch!

Oh yeah, anymore pics?

Also, where did you find the exact offset for our stock rims?

Do you have a specific set of GS wheels in mind?

I'm really not sure if ANY 17" GS rims will work, but I would guess yes, particularly if they are from a 3GS (since the front brakes are almost the same size - 13.15 for the IS, 13.1 for the GS430). You also need to make sure the bolt pattern is the same, in case you didn't already check.

Basically, I used the offset calculator to make sure that 17x7.5 wheels gave more clearance than the 17x8 or 18x8 OEM IS wheels. As an example, using the calculator ONLY, 17x7.5 wheels must have an offset of +50 or less to fit. 17x7 wheels must have an offset of +55 or less to fit. 17x8 wheels must have an offset of +45 of less to fit (stock IS size).

I can't remember where I found the exact OEM offset, but I know that it is:
17": 17x8 +45
18": 18x8 +45 (front)
18x8.5 +50 (rear)

I'm going to try to duke the winter out on my summer tires...just to see how bad it is.

Thx again a TON for the info! So just to clarify, when using the calculator you want there to be more clearance on both numbers? Any idea whether the stock IS300 rims may fit?

Regarding the GS rims, I was thinking about the 2000 GS400 rims 17inch 5 spoke, I think these are the specs, so you're saying this probably won't fit with a 50mm offset?

Size: 17 x 8
Bolt Pattern: 5 - 114.3 ( 5 lug holes)
Offset: 50 mm
Center bore: 60 mm
Finish: Silver Painted
Style: 5 spoke
Misc: Center cap included (no logo)

Vehicle Application:
2001-2002 Lexus GS430
1999-2002 Lexus IS300
1998-2000 Lexus GS400

Here's a pic:

I used the 18 inch GS430 wheels. Because of when I got my IS, had to go with Continental WinterContact as the Dunlops and Pirellis were out of stock by last January at Tire Rack. But they worked really well last winter.
